This book definitely does what it is intended to do! There are memory methods in this book that have served me well in certain courses in college. The book itself is not just about reading, you must put some hands on work in as well. Aside from that, as long as you are willing to put in the time at least an hour a day, you will reap the benefits. I have shown people some of the things that I can remember because of this book, and they are simply amazed. Once you get to number memorization it will begin to get slightly more difficult, but as long as you stick it out you will see the results! If you like learning new things, especially when it comes to memorization, this is the book you want!!! You may not need everything in the book, but in life there is no such thing as useless knowledge!

Enjoy!

I first read Harry Lorayne's original Memory book around 15 years ago. This book is even better because he improved a lot of the techniques he presented in the older book. I find it a joy to read and would recommend this book to anyone.

The book says you can improve your memory by telling stories which might work for me if I could only remember the stories that go with the words and numbers, otherwise , might work for some people to memorize a lot of things in life.

This book is full of tricks to improve memory. If you let your imagination run freely with the words or names that need memorizing they'll be harder to forget because you've just created a storyline full of visual stimulus... the author gives examples but encourages you to use your own imagination. Play along and reap the benefits later. I'm back in school and so thankful for finding this gem!

Definitely gave some excellent tools. Some of the tools, like card tricks, were not very valuable to me, so I skipped them. But overall, this was a great system that I am already using on a daily basis to remember various things.

The Memory Book should be considered by anyone going back to school and needing a way to remember a lot of information. I think it enhances the right brain, by creating pictures which can be used to recall a thought or idea. It is not fast in the beginning, it takes practice...that's why you need to start early. The book gives you the method to train yourself in order to use the memory techniques everyday.

I have always had major problems remembering names, places and things in general really. So when it was recommended by a great mentor of mine as a 'must have' book, I thought "Why not".

From the very beginning when they show you how to 'remember' things, it's been WOW. It actually makes sense when you think about it - the process that is. The 'this is how you remember things' process. AND it's easy once you get into it. All you have to do is have a crazy, wild and way-out imagination to help you to remember.

I would recommend this to parents who want to help their children to remember spelling words, things, lists, anything. It would make such a difference in their school lives. I would recommend this book to anyone who is anyone who wants to expand their knowledge in any area in their life.

Great book - great fun learning.

Useful little memory tips. Where "Moonwalking with Einstein" took you along Joshua Foer's voyage into memory enhancement, this "The Memory Book" will show you every possible strategy you'd need to build your memory. Great book even though it's pretty old. Not five stars b/c a bit is repetitive, but it is good enough to get the job done and covers a lot of different strategies while remaining somewhat interesting.

I am not a native english speaker, however I really found this book really useful for improving my memory. I used to say that my memory was not good; this book made me realize that it only needed some exercise.

When my daughter was 11, she came home from school very upset because of a homework assignment she was just given and which was due the next day. The assignment was to memorize the names of the 50 states and to locate them on a map. I had been reading The Memory Book and decided to see if one of the techniques could help my kid. Within half an hour she had the assignment completed and aced it the following day in class. Worked for her and works for me (but I'm rusty - and old - and have just purchased my 3rd copy - the other two I gave away to my nieces).
