I was very curious about this colouring book, having heard a positive critique on the Baker Street Babes blog. They went on mostly about the positive fan aspect of it, a type of feedback I will leave to the countless fans to do here. Practically speaking, the line art in this book is pretty disappointing. Yes, it has to be line art for colouring, i.e. one must leave empty/blank spaces everywhere to be filled with colour, but the aesthetic of it is truly what ticked me off in many pieces, especially with the character faces. The artist went too much for realism, but got really sloppy in many cases (especially with the weight of the lines themselves). Mingling computer-generated line art with hand lines also creates an odd style I do not particularly enjoy. I am into drawing myself, so that's what jumped to me right away. I would honestly have preferred something more stylized and personalized, even if the characters would not have been true lookalikes. Therefore, the challenge will be to see if I can apply my skills with colours to make this sloppy line art disappear and only emphasize the good spots.
