If you want to increase your vocabulary and enjoy being challenged; this is the book for you. Once you pick it up you will not want to put it down. It is awesome! You will learn 1000 words in no time flat. It is highly interactive. I had this book and brutally used it. I had to purchased a new one. There are quizzes and exams. You will have many experiences of hearing new words you learned and when you do you will have an aHa! moment. Your vocabulary will increase and you will surprise yourself of using the new words you have learned in conversation. You will also realize and understand conversations when others do not. It is an amazing book. Buy it!

The methods Norman Lewis uses to teach vocabulary are fun, refreshing, and LASTING! As a senior in high school, I found this book every bit as interesting as one might expect from a novel. To this day, I remember the chapter on the various medical practitioners. But even more amazing, when I see them in print, I can, to this day, remember whether I learned them from WORD POWER MADE EASY. The most helpful hints for me were the foreign language roots. Learning those helped me uncover the meaning of other words based on those roots. Also Lewis' little vignettes for each word are memorable. My favorite, even now, is the one describing a 'phrenologist'. Try it! You'll love it!

norman lewis is a master of english whose books have survived all competition over 80 years. He was the first to write interactive books for any level of education and for anyone learning English as a second language or improving English as a first language. His anecdotes make learning etymology fun. Learning the roots of words taught me more words than were actually taught in this great book. It literally opened doors for me. I can now talk about doctors or psychopaths with the same ease and self confidence. I am now looking for other books by Norman Lewis but they seem to be out of print. Norman Lewis was a college professor; I wish I had been his student. This book comes alive so I almost feel I am. I am buying more copies to give to my friends and associates so they can acquire the skills I have. I completed it while waiting for buses and doctors. I never felt I had to study hard.

Weaknesses I've noticed so far:
a. The formatting is not as consistent as I'd like when I view in the Kindle for Mac application.
b. An introductory chapter, very short but useful, was not included in the Kindle edition. Called "How To Use This Book For Maximum Benefit"
c. Two valuable tests are not included. First not included: A Test Of Verbal Speed. Second not included: A Test Of Verbal Responsiveness.
Strengths:
This book is a classic. Very useful. Most of the original material is here and the formatting isn't so bad as to be disconcerting. I have a paper copy, so I can use that too.
Happy to see this on the Kindle!!
(I'd give the Kindle version 5 stars if they fixed a, b, and c above)

I tried another book first, and it was really good. However, once I moved onto a new chapter, I'd forgotten all that I'd learned. This book teaches and reinforces so well that I haven't forgotten anything, and I'm half way through the book. It is very well done.

Simply put, the quintessential book to improve vocabulary. Makes words into math: root + suffix, ending, prefix, etc. I used with my foreign students, and used myself in high school. Always score an "Excellent" on the Reader's Digest, "It Pays to Improve your Word Power"!

I discovered this book cleaning a closet when I was 16. I started reading it, sat down in the closet and before I knew it I read the whole thing....and I'm a slow reader! This book is for people who are fascinated by language and for those who haven't yet discovered that they are fascinated by language. Try it.

This is a superior vocabulary builder second to none. Had a friend who was a candidate for ORU's PhD program and needed to build her vocabulary for the entrance interview. Based on her internalizing "Word Power Made Easy" methodically she was successful in her venture.

I look forward to learning the words in this book. I have a higher level degree, nevertheless, I believe that my vocabulary can use a boost. I liked the price of this book. I perused the book and discovered that this book is a course for improving my vocabulary. I find that refreshing because the learning process is reinforced. I am very happy with my purchase and I can't wait to get started!
