This book is the most honest, real-world, practical guide to starting something new, or restarting something you have always wanted to do, that I have ever read. Acuff's honesty about his own journey to his "awesome" is refreshing, and gives me hope that one day I will be finding mine as well.

In this book are several practical tools to get you started on developing some goals and making progress towards these goals. This guy's method's of doing things makes perfect sense to someone like me who has been growing in spirituality for about 3 years. It's always a good refresher for anyone who may feel lost or stagnant. I just enjoyed reading and seeing the things from this guys point of view. Alot of what he says is easier said than done and I'm sure he knows that. Just be prepared. Take small steps towards those goals and eventually you will achieve them.

Awesome book. I'm thankful Jon pursued his awesome and dared to share with the rest of us who are sick and tired of being simply average. This book is not only motivational, it's practical and doesn't leave me without a plan of action.

Just finished Start. By Jon Acuff. Where are you in your journey to AWESOME? Learning, Editing, Mastering, Harvesting, Guiding . . . Funny thing is its not linear but circular with many, many loop-d-loops. Are we having FUN yet? You betcha!

Touches a little on spiritual warfare, giving names to the demons ( fear, doubt . . .), calls it for what it is that is holding all of us back - being average is safe or so we think. Walking Zombies is not what i call safe or normal, but most of us are doing it everyday. Remember 'Normal' is just a setting on your dryer. We were all created to be AWESOME! What's yours?

I bought the Kindle version but time kept me from moving through it so on Friday I bought the MP3 so that I could gain some traction. It worked like a dream. I listened to the entire book today and now I have my pen and paper out and ready to START. I think I will buy Quitter next.

Jon Acuff has nailed it in his new book "Start". He has shown us the way to get to and stay on the road to Awesome. Everyone's awesome is different but knowing there is someone who has been able to show me what the road to awesome looks like as well as how to get there. Jon is hilarious and his writing style is much more like a friend you are sharing a cup of coffee with than someone who puts on airs of having it all together. I have "started" on my own path to awesome and I am so thankful for a book like Jon's to help guide me there.

Jon did a tremendous job of writing a relatable and down to earth book to motivate each of us to find our awesome! This book was so great I read it over the course of about 5 hours. Acuff speaks to us not as someone giving a sermon on high like some motivational book writers, but as one of funny and wise friends!

Start took me on a non-stop roller coaster thrill ride. I had a million ideas and feelings and was super disappointed when it was over. However, after working through it, I finally made some decisions and have started down a new path. Very excited and no longer burned out and stuck. Yay, me. Thank you, Jon Acuff

Steve Jobs' brillance understood that people want hope and products that simply work. Likewise, Jon Acuff simplifies other self starting, self help and motivational books in this easy to read, cleverly written "Start." Woven within 200+ pages are lessons that prior generations took through various decades of life. In "Start," Jon Acuff points out that our world today offers different opportunities and people at any age can start a new purpose driven path. If you are in a rut and needing a little bit of hope and motivation, this book may help.

Hopefully encouragement and help in planning a life. Purchased for my grand daughter with hopes she would read it, rather than my lecturing. The fifty years difference in age doesn't translate real well.

Fantastic book. Really helped me since I am just getting my ideas together for a new business. All the things he says are 100% bullseye, right on the dot. It also has a very helpful chapter in the back to show you how to punch fear in the face. Great read for anyone thinking about changing you job or starting a business.

Unlike his last book this one is for everyone and his last book was great just not for everyone. If you want to be awesome in the future, are being awesome now or you were once awesome and would like to return. Very visual breakdown of the 5 stages of development, with enough humor to keep you turning the page. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is between projects or events as a great help to perspective.

Jon has a real winner here! This book helps describe the process of going from average to awesome. He helps to guide the reader through an honest dialogue. Anyone can be awesome if they are willing to work hard. This is different than most business/motivational books. This book gives you the steps to take. You are not left with.. I just read the book now what? This book is a game changer. I will be sharing this book with everyone I know.

We purchased Start. for each of our Team Members and are using Start to launch a mentoring program. Mentors are working to encourage each person to be "Awesome". To "Start" doing what they are called to do.

Jon's practical and real life examples have given our Team Members a Start to the next chapter of their lives in our God centered business and at home.

Thank you Jon! Great book.

This is an average guy who has accomplished awesome things (through hard work and determination). Very entertaining (follow him on Twitter if you need a pick-me-up...he's hilarious), and has a great writing style.

Loved it - I was concerned with fluff. Books have fluff and no instruction. This had enough fluff to keep you entertained and help you visualize and grasp what he was saying. Most importantly, it was followed up with instruction on how to and what to in order to become awesome. By chapter 3 I was furiously highighting and taking notes. I consider this a valuable resource as I continue to grow into the awesome I want to be. Thank you Jon!

I started reading because I wanted to be better. Better for me has to be practical
It has to be something I can do that I love to do already but in what is now my life I has given up.
This book provides a practical way to do that.

Do you need beauty, glamour, and fame to be awesome? Heck no! All you need are a pair or eyeballs to read to Jon Acuff's newest book,"Start:Punch Fear in the Face. Escape Average. Do Work that Matters." If the title alone doesn't grab you, then you must be in a clinically-induced coma.

START is a motivational book (that is also incredibly hilarious!) that encourages the reader to live with purpose and intentionality. Phrases such as, "The starting line is the only line you completely control," and "You have to be brutally realistic about your present circumstances and wildly unrealistic about your future circumstances," provide plenty of food for thought.

The encouragement is great, but was is really valuable about START is that it is also practical. Jon lays out the steps that anyone chasing a dream or trying to live with purpose needs to go through: learning, editing, mastering, harvesting and guiding. Paring those steps with the advantages of a social media/tech era and hustle provide an opportunity for anyone who needs to reinvent themselves or beat down fears that hold them back. But beyond the steps, the greatest advice the book gives is in the title itself: just start. Just starting will drown out the voices of fear that kills dreams before they can flourish. It's also personal. Jon shares from his own experience how to avoid pitfalls like arrogance, entitlement, and self-absorption when chasing your dream.

Unlike other books that layout a formulaic approach to success, START empowers the reader to change their own direction by simply starting. It's up to the reader to stay on the road to average or to get on the path to awesome. A definite "Must Read" for anyone (old, young, man, woman) who wants to live with purpose!

A great companion to his third book, Quitter, and a wonderful way to help you begin your journey to accomplishing your dreams. I highly recommend both Quitter and Start... TOGETHER! I'll definitely be gifting both to people!

After you pick up this book of course... ;)

But seriously, we face a problem in today's world & I can attest to this personally. It's an addiction to the "False Start".

What I love about what Jon shares is...

A) A real life roadmap that's actionable & approachable
B) Stories that we all can relate with
C) His wit & humor.

If you're addicted to the false start... or you just don't know where to start, then this book is a great first step down the pathway toward your dream life. :)

Jon Acuff has captured the essence of the human condition when it comes to living life. Many of us just fall in line and become average, all based on the whispers of fear in our heads. Jon takes those whispers and exposes them to the light where they cannot survive.
If you have ever felt stuck,or that you are not living up to your potential, then dare to be motivated again and pick up this book.
AWESOME!!!

This book was so conversational, I felt like Jon was reading it to me. He was delightfully real and personal - I practically felt I could pick up my cell phone and call him by the end of the book! The advice encouraged and inspired me. I love his sense of humor. I have become an instant Jon Acuff fan.

Jon Acuff does a great jib inspiring readers to get started in moving forward in their lives. I have begun using this with clients I work with....when are you going to start. It is such a simple concept, yet really makes you think. I am personally going to put several post it notes in my world that say " don't be a jerk!" to keep my sarcasm in check!
