I found the book engrossing. I was eager to know what happened. My goodness, I was extremely worried about the main character and his family making the journey to Canada. Whew! I was so relieved when they made it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Burning Uncle Tom's cabin. The characters had such depth and provided so much perspective. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. Wonderful story and great read. I highly recommend it.

Creative recounting of "Uncle Tom's Cabin!" George is a strong, alpha character, made to play a submissive. He questions the right of one man to own another; especially his mean spirited "master." Eliza is "complacent," at the home of her "good / kind, master" until she learns her son will be sold to pay off "masters," debt. She finds the strength to protect her own.
The injustice of slavery is examined, without the steady reinforcing of stereotypes displayed in the original book. (ie. "Tom...had the...impressible nature of his...race, ever yearning towards the simple and childlike...").Good read; first in a series. 3 1/2 stars.

Loved the book...I like to read novels that keeps you wanting to know more about the character. You are able to follow the life of the characters as if they are real people. Although this was before my time, I felt like I was there with her.

The vocabulary was very simple and not stimulating. Not once did I need a dictionary. Seems to be written on a junior high educational level. I would not recommend even a free copy. Glad I did not pay for the book.

Mr. Waters has done the necessary and essential, that is, his revision becomes not merely a new vision, but a portrayal, a convincing saga of fully developed and believable everyman in extraordinary situations.

Easy to read, well worth my time. Poignant disturbingly riveting at times. I felt like I was escaping through the woods with Eliza, or on the dock wearing a disguise, expecting the worst at any moment.
