I love reading Louis L' Amour, The stories are pretty much all the same, Lonely man, lonely woman, really bad man threatening
lonely woman. This is not the reason I enjoy them so much.
When you read one of these stories it draws you in, you can taste it , hear it,smell it, The descriptions are perfect. The effort he puts into these books is awesome
I especially like the Sackett stories wish he would of had time for a few more stories. I highly recommend these stories, they will
take you on a great adventure.

As always Mr. L'Amour's description of the Geographic area where the story takes place is excellent. His printed narration of the landscape allows the reader to enjoy a mental picture of the story. While I have, on occasion, listened to and enjoyed Mr. L 'Amour's novels on tape and/or disc, I believe Mr. L 'Amour's novels were meant to be read for the maximum enjoyment.

Shell got out of trouble and places that were pretty much impossible to get out of. One moment he has no way to escape, the next thing you know Shell is either walking, crawling or riding out of trouble.

Tucker gives more than he takes and turns the tables on these high handed men seeking revenge and trying to back stab him in their greediness. He is wary but sure of himself. Stays alert to the changing times and strategies of men.

My father has the whole collection of Louis L'amour books sitting on a shelf, so I grabbed one and started reading. This was a solid four star book for me. I love a good western, and I liked the development of Shell. He started out as a careless kid and grew to be a strong man. Very stubborn, not willing to give up his hunt on Haseltine to get his father's money back, as he promised him.

He had a lot of fight in him. It seemed nothing could keep him down. The desire to keep his promise to his father was his fighting force, and I admired that about the character. I am rating it 4 stars because there were some spots where it was predictable, and I felt that the ending was lacking. It was summed up almost too easily, and after the build up through the whole book, I was shocked at how fast it stopped.

Still an entertaining read and a good western with a stubborn and headstrong main character that I admired.

This story is like "Haunted Mesa" in that it could have been written in half the time. I mean how many times can you be wounded and live to fight again. I do not like a lead character who constantly doubts him or herself as to if they are doing the right thing. I just could not believe how easily things fell in place for Tucker; I lke a little reality mixed in. I enjoyed the previous two Westerns that I just read by L'Amour, so I'll try him again sometime.
