No one has heard of these books, but everyone should have. I will definitely read these to my kids. The way that different books focus on different characters mix things up, the Arthurian-legend-in-present-day is fun, and every kid loves the story of a child with great responsibility (Will Turner).

I was introduced to this book in fifth grade. Every fall since then I've felt drawn back to it. I've probably read it 15 times since then. Over 20 years later I can still recite the prophecy from memory.

Absolutely wonderful series....too bad they decided to skip the first book when making the movie...and too bad they didn't follow the book's storyline at all. All of the books in this series are important to the story and well worth reading for teens or grownups.

This is an extraordinary fantasy series. I don't understand why it hasn't had more attention. The movie adaptation they did a few years ago was a disaster but this is truly magical...it weaves Merlin, childhood curiosity, the seventh son of the seventh son ( the staple of magical stories) and Celtic lore all into one...I can read it over and over...really worth giving to all lovers of wonderful books.

This is to replace my hardbacked copy which a friend has obviously liked so much that she has failed to return it!
I have read and re-read it over the years and still enjoy it. My arthritic hands do not find it so easy to hold open but this
does not stop me reading it. I consider it a minor classic of its kind and would not like to be without a copy. Thank you for the opportunity to replace it.

This is a wonderfully creative and imaginative series. Don't be fooled by the movie of a similar name (The Seeker" the Dark is Rising.) The movie has made many, many changes. Discover the real mystery and excitement in Susan Cooper's writing.

A 'new' find for me. Cooper emits shades of Tolkien and Lewis with her
twist of the Arthurian legends; written for kids who like mysteries.
Good and Evil and subtle and not-so-suble magic is used. With humor
and sensitivity.

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper is a thrilling story of the battle between good and evil. Cooper is brilliant at creating believable, well-developed, and fascinating characters and creating moods and atmosphere. This book is not just something to read, but something to experience. I highly recommend it.
