Scott Kelly has a way of using words in sentences
That make you visualize the scene. He puts you in the room or setting with the characters in several parts of the book. The subject of faking your own death for money has been an older persons way out of something bad not someone as young as Kayla, Sean or Morgan. To have a corrupt insurance agent behind the entire scheme doesn't
Surprise me, but he seems to have his puppets on tight strings. As many police they have after them
It's no wonder they don't trust each other. Sean seams to just want to go back home to Ireland until he has to fake his death a second time on his own with alligators. He and Morgan have a strange relationship. She wants him in the business, he knows she has saved him several times and he has nowhere else to go except prison. After nearly dying in the swamps and floating for hours he is reunited with Morgan near
The Mexican waters. He is wounded, hurt being hunted as a fugitive. The future does not look good for either of them. Hense, we are left with both sitting in a boat with a duffle bag of money our cliffhanger..... now for book two.

Fast paced, thriller that keeps the surprises coming. I must admit Inwas skeptical when my fiend recommended this book. It didn't seem to be something I'd enjoy, but let me tell you boy oh boy was I wrong. Sean and his crew will pull you along for an epic adventure that spans the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Murder, mayhem and a chuckle or two will follow as you read with baited breath what comes next. I'd never heard of "killing the ghost" before and certainly would never have imagined that faking your own death could be so easy and so complicated all at once. A rich cast of characters(mostly minor parts) add to the cliffhanging moments where you will continually believe that is the end of the road for an unlikely hero. Give it a chance you won't regret it, I promise! Can't wait to read the second book.

This story is very interesting and quirkt. It has an interesting premise. The characters are all have the reasons for faking death. Sean gets caught up in this confusing world and struggles to understand it. Then everything goes sideways and he scrambles to survive in this dark world. He careens from one disaster to another. Everything is not what it seems, I thoroughly enjoyed this 1st book in a 3 book series. If you like mystery intrigue and thrillers you will like this book. I have the 1nd book which I intend to read next. Life in the run can be dangerous. This is a good 1st book by a new author.

Also different. I enjoyed reading the book. It's not my normal reading genre. I was very surprised at how quickly I got invested in the characters. I felt kinda bad I was rooting for the bad guys. I won't give details of the book. Too many others do that. I received the book free but after reading this I can honestly say, I'd read another from this author. It was a unique story. The author made all the characters relatable. Even though the ghost are really criminals, you can't help but want them to get away with it. Except Jack. I didn't like him.

Keep the Ghost is an adventurous fiction that begins with Sean agreeing to be an accomplice to a victimless crime and quickly gains speed, escalating to betrayal, murder, and a fugitive chase. A fan of procedural dramas, I was impressed with how anxious I felt for Sean’s seemingly hopeless situation and had to keep reading, anxious to see how he would clear his name regarding Kayla’s disappearance. I loved Sean’s character and found him to be set-up perfectly. As a foreign exchange student, he is a bit culturally disconnected and since he has few social ties his unconventional solution rings as more believable. When Kayla, one of his few anchors, is eliminated as an ally right away, he is plunged unwillingly into a mystery that doesn’t fully unravel until the final chapters.
The theme of identity and the question of recreating yourself outside of social constructs really elevates the enjoyability of the drama without overpowering it. Kayla sets off a chain of events in her desire to be liberated from her identify (though from the first, you question her true motive) while Morgan and Sean step onto this path as accomplices, really only guilty of misplaced loyalty. The real adventure of this book isn’t the fallout of Kayla throwing away her identity, but the progression of Sean creating his own.
It would be a misunderstanding to assume that recreating yourself is a safe pursuit — this is a hard-boiled crime novel and Sean dives right into the abysses of lawlessness. Jack is a chilling antagonist who deserves a mention. “Antagonist” really doesn’t do Jack justice - he is villainous work of art whose desire for “freedom from myself” extends to freedom from his own humanity. At some point, we’ve likely all gone too far in an effort to defy convention and be true to ourselves, but Jack takes it from peaceful enlightenment to depraved psychosis. Though Sean attempts to play by the rules early in the book, he adapts quickly, throws social conventions to the wind and reinvents himself to survive. This new persona develops further with each turn of the page and you cheer for Sean to keep pushing the boundaries but anxiously hope he doesn’t go as far down the dark path as Jack. I found myself pleasantly surprised and pleased with Sean at the end though and would pick up a sequel in a heartbeat.

I received this book from the author in a promotion and am so glad that I clicked! Sean gets caught in what is supposed to be Kayla's escape from herself so that she can be a ghost and now he is on the run, accused of her murder. Tense at times, exciting all of the time. Book 2 sounds like the troubles in 'Keep the Ghost' were just the beginning.

Very interesting story. It is a page turner. I didn't want to put it down. Your descriptions felt so real, I felt like I was there. I couldn't wait to get to the end to find out what happened to Sean. I love sequels but to be honest, I don't like cliff hangers.

Slow starting but finally got on a roll. I would think this is it and then, somehow they were off again. Looking forward to the sequel which I'm starting right away.

this was different, then I have read before I would love to continue the series, to say Noone has thought about or even attempted to fake their own death would be a lie, but I have never read a book about it. well done and we'll written.
A copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own

Sean is an exchange student from Ireland. His host family has a daughter named Kayla. She apparently wants to fake her death and she has more or less forced Sean to help her. But everything goes wrong. Kayla's body is found and it looks like Sean will be charged with murder. So he runs. He finds the people who helped Kayla and they agree to help him. From there, the story really takes off. Life on the run is not easy but it certainly is interesting. Quick thinking is a prime requisite. The twists and turns of Sean's life on the run held me captive.
This was a very different book. It wasn't what I expected when I chose it. It wasn't what I thought after I read the first section. But, poor Sean! I worried about him from the start. I think I will still worry about him whenever I think of this book.

Such an original and interesting concept and storyline. I read ALOT and I can truthfully say I've not read anything like Keep the Ghost. Characters you can connect with and rally behind. Mysterious, compelling and intriguing all in one.

Enjoyed This Book Completely!!! Its always cool to find a new author who can hold your attention...the book seemed to start a bit slow for the first few pages then its like you get pushed down a hill at break neck speed...I didn't want the story to end...get this book, you won't be sorry

At times I could relate to the characters and the way they acted. At other times, their rationale for doing things did not make sense. When I had 40 % of the book read, I began to feel like it was taking too long to wrap up. However, I did finish reading the book. As another reviewer said, the ending of the book was abrupt. I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a really well-written suspense thriller which is not a super-natural so don't be put off with the references to 'ghosts'. I read it almost non-stop and it is a 'page-turner'. The theme (how to lose your identify) masks a scam perpetrated by mysterious fraudsters who use art to conceal their identities. FInd it surprising that this is not a 'maintstream' thriller as it's a lot better than a lot of big name books I've read.
