This story will contain some spoilers to prove a point. The story is mixing our present world into a fantasy real. The Marine Gunnery Sergeant seems to be written good but has a couple of flaws in the development. When Gunny leaves his post to strike out on his own he violates everything that a Marine would do. His own troops disagree with him but salute him leaving. That is so abnormal it borders on insane. The Gunny was a patriot but despite 99% of the population not figuring out the lights were never coming back on decided that he knew everything changed. Instead of taking charge and leading the group out (and dragging the Ambassador) with him, he just up and left going AWOL. Seriously? What is this Sesame Street for 5 year olds?

Another factor is that the Gunny speaks in British lingo, “Bolocks, you must be taking the piss”, etc. A career American Gunny Sergeant would not be speaking like a Brit.
The story is pretty good strange. The Ambassador woman drapes an American flag onto herself and commits suicide. Who does that stuff? I mean Americans are stout patriots but that is insane!
I think Gunny should have unloaded his SAW onto the group that first killed him. Instead of going berserker, I would have just used the machine gun he held in his hand.
The writing was good but there were some flaws. I did like the alien influence when what his name found Earth and messed with peoples minds. The author even through in historical UFO abductee’s. That couple in real life ended up killing themselves later on due to insanity. It is a pretty good book but I won’t be following it myself.

This is a very well written dystopian fantasy. It left me hungry for more and I immediately bought the next two in the series. Mr. Zerf tells a great story. The story is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Enjoyed it enough to buy the second book. Keeps your interest because it has unexpected elements. My only wish is for better editing. Whenever I'm reading, stopping to puzzle out brian for brain, etc. takes one outside the story for a second.

Very good book. It caught my interest immediately and kept it through the entire book. The only problem is it is a continued story and it is not available to purchase. I got the first one free and would gladly pay for it. Very very disappointed by this.

Good main character, well written post emp-apocalypse action and a bit of fantasy aliens thrown in. The second book starts well, with more of the same but the fantasy part starts to take the upper hand, with our hero going back in time to defeat the Romans a few times unite the Picts and become King Arthur. When he returns to the "present" the Arthurian legends have all changed to match this new history and, although 20 years has passed, we see no evidence of the Europeans and Americans who would certainly have had ocean going vessels and gunpowder by then, nor any explanation of why not. The fantasy aliens are in control of England and we have a repeat of the battles with the Romans, but this time against the aliens. Then the number and kind of aliens start to multiply, our our hero's acts of daring do grow ever less believable. It kept me through four books, but I won't buy the fifth -- suspension of disbelief just got too hard.
