I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the beginning of the war with the Japanese. The confusion ,politics and lack of fighting ability after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the dedication of the fighting man in those adverse times.

I really enjoyed this book, I find Peter Grasso an impelling author, I wish that he would write some more in a hurry.

I have had my Kindle for only one year and have read over 64 books in that time

I currently live in the Philippines where memories of atrocities by the Japanese are still vividly remembered.
This authors completely insensitive description of 'comfort women' is quite disgusting. He treats as a kind of joke event. I couldn't read beyond that point.

William Grasso's stays true to his concept of "change one thing...and watch what happens" in "Long Walk to the Sun" he produced a well-crafted and entertaining tale. Grasso's alternative history begins with the Japanese destroying the fuel storage at Pearl Harbor during their December 7th attack, in reality this didn't happen. That one change to history sets up the rest of the story, which leads to a Japanese regiment landing on Australia's desolate and undefended Cape York Peninsula.

Into this alternative history Grasso thrusts believable characters. The plot is quick-paced with plenty of twists. The writer commands a firm grip on his subject matter and convincingly portrays the behind-the-lines politics as being just as deadly as jungle combat. What I liked most about "Long Walk to the Sun" was that despite the fact it is novel set in an alternative history Grasso made it a realistic story.

I highly recommend this novel.

The alternate history is the Pacific fleet fuel oil supply was destroyed in the attack on Pearl Harbor setting back navel operations by a year. The Japanese invade north eastern Australia and an American recon squad is sent to locate and pinpoint the enemy for a bombing raid. The story that ensues is so outrageously unrealistic that only a comic book and the store would publish it. And if that's not bad enough the way the subject of "comfort women" as they were called by the Japanese were dealt with was inaccurate and completely inappropriate. They were portrayed as whores and prostitutes. They were no such thing. These women were kidnapped by the Japanese and held as sex slaves for the occupying Japanese military. They were raped and worse. This was a horrific war crime and should be treated as such. This book needs to revised accordingly, or any reference to these poor unfortunate victims be deleted. The author is a knucklehead but the store is more to blame for publishing it.

A challenging and imaginative tale of the early days of WW2; when people were expecting invasions everywhere and often. The York Peninsula in Northern and tropical Australia certainly would have been susceptible to the Japanese. Grasso captures, aptly, the US political and military mentality which compounded with Aussie biases provide an appropriate background for this unlikely but lively story. Good characters and a continuing good sense of the real history should make this an interesting series.

Well written, great characters, and of course good guys and oh so bad guys. The bad guys aren't always the Japanese either, try General MacArthur, and virtually all of his staff of toadys. It seems to be the grunts view of things, the higher the rank the worse the holder of the rank is. With exceptions of course.

Vivid (sometimes gruesome) descriptions of war. My only gripe is the descriptions of this book as 'alternate' history. Historical Fiction is the way it should be, and very fine 'historical fiction' it is.

I like books that are in a series with characters that you can follow from book to book. I enjoyed this book very much and have downloaded the next 4 books in the series. Mr. Grass writes a good story with strong characters that makes a great book!

The author transported me into the action. It gave me things to think about. Such as: how many soldiers were actually passed over for a well-deserved medal and/or promotion by some incompetent, vindictive, dishonest officer? It made me bless the men who fought for our country. I am learning the geography of the war, also. There are a lot of facts that I don't know about the war. The only thing I didn't care for was the little story of the gynecological issue. I do not think getting drunk was quite the answer. But, whatever. All in all, a great read.

Good plot, believable story, but language used by characters not realistic. I have read a lot of WW 2 history and recognize historical narrative to be believable and reasonably accurate. I grew up during the war and worked around G.I.s from a nearby airbase. I heard swear words and occasional "colorful language" but never so much use of "F" word. Most of characters in story were otherwise above use of such vial use of English language. Otherwise, I found book interesting and captivating.

Alternate history - and very convincing. The author weaves a convincing web of 'what-ifs' into a very entertaining and realistic set of events that could have been. His understanding of the military mind on both sides of the battle ground lend an almost humorous touch to the action described. An enjoyable read. I will be reading more by this author.

History may not have been recorded just like Mr. Grasso describes it in this work, but he really made his version interesting and thought provoking. The loss of the oil storage facility at Pearl Harbor (which did not happen) provided Grasso multiple opportunities for unique story lines that are most entertaining. His characters are well developed to the extent you feel you know them as friends. A most pleasant read.

I do recommend this book. The characters are nicely drawn. There are several plot lines and themes here to hold your interest. The balance between action and the characters will keep you reading. Kudos to Mr. Grasso for deftly handling so well what could have been a really schmaltzy ending. I'm a fan.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, and will start reading the next one immediately. Peter Grasso can definitely pen a great book, and this possibility could've been true with any sort of mishap during the Pearl raid by the Japanese.

This novel sets the stage for a very enjoyable read as you follow along with the challenges of a typical soldier in our very complex military - sometimes it amazes me that we have been able to succeed at all in the many conflicts we have experienced - after spending 30+ years in the military I can easily relate to the unbelievable decisions made at the expense of the low man on the pole...
