This was a great quick read. The king behaved like a king, now it all, arrogant and overconfident, but not in an unbearable manner, he was very likable. The h was also very funny and kind and Sashin was a great friend to the king. All the characters are very well written and I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

While it has it's humorous moments, the dialogue feels contrived and stilted. The characters are nearly likable but kind of dense. Especially the heroine.
This book is totally light reading. No depth. No drama. Just lust and sex wrapped with a story. I'm glad I got this for free. I would have been absolutely unhappy otherwise.

Their attraction was too easy and their romance fast. There was no conflict when Kabril and Rayna first met. Everything went smoothly in their attraction for each other. The story was simple. I felt that King Kabril should have been portrayed as larger than life since he was the king of his people plus an alien shifter. Rayna was way too accepting of everything. I'm not sure that I will continue this series, but I may want to read more about Sachin, the king's adviser.

Rayna dreams about him, but never sees his face, as Kabril and Sachin get to know her, Kabril realizes that he loves her and that she is his mate, but as of yet he has not told her anything about what and who he really is.
Rayna is put in danger as she is kidnapped and find out what he is before he has a chance to tell her. Will she admit to her feelings and accept him for what and who he is, read the book, its a story well writen and the characters are likable.

Rayna is a wonderful human. Kabril is a spoiled arrogant King.
The King is a prejudices neanderthal, who his wise ones predict he will marry a HUMAN. Are they insane? No Not happening... lol so he thought. He would be wrong.
Rayna is lonely, she is smart she is self sufficient and comfortable. Kabril is gorgeous, strong, loves animals. Has a way of speaking that keeps her listening. And has her having dreams of those strong arms and those hands and well that body........ sigh She can not seem to do anything while he is around wak speak, teach him to cook. Noda nothing she can not think when he is around. He must think her blonde, she is not. But he is not telling her all she needs to know, can she handle it when it is revealed?
They fall hard for one another but will Kabril's enemies take her and kill her? can he save her? will the gods curse him to show him what he could have just to take it away?
This is a great story with lots of future books to keep you reading for days.

King Kabril must find a wife. “The Oracle says his people's fertility will be restored only when he takes a mate.” The problem, there are no women he desires on his home world. A world of two moons and bird shifters. Not your ordinary birds, but large, human size, birds of prey.
His advisor and old friend, Sachin suggest he look to the human realm. This is disgusting to Kabril as he sees the humans as dirty creatures with no wings, that must use machines to fly. But left with little choice, he and Sachin travel to earth to begin his quest for mate.
Never believing he will find his mate on earth, he is surprised when he meets Rayna, an animal photographer and is instantly attracted to her. Kabril not believing she is the woman in the prophecy, keeps his distance. Meanwhile, Sachin is working his magic in the background to see these two come together, by coaching Kabril on the earthly courting rituals. Will Rayna accept the truth about Kabril or will his enemies find a way to steal her from him?
Through Ms. Roth's creative writing you instantly connect with the characters. You will laugh out loud with the banter between Rayna and Kabril. Rayna is a no nonsense, take charge person who has Kabril wrapped around her finger. Pick up this first book in the King of Prey series, you will not be disappointed. A short enjoyable read.

I haven’t read too many bird shifter books. This is definitely one to add to your library! The shifters in this book don’t turn into tiny little birds, oh no, they are larger than life huge birds of prey. And Kabril, he is the King.
King Kabril must take a wife in order for the mating magik to begin, and for the people of his kingdom to once again have children. It is his duty. Sachin, his friend and right hand man, tells him that he must woo an earth woman to fulfill the prophecy. This doesn’t sit well with Kabril because humans are generally looked down upon. But as King, his life is not necessarily his own and his kingdom is counting on him. So he goes to earth, where he meets Rayna.
Rayna is an animal photographer, which seems to good to be true. Kabril’s cover story is that he is an avian veterinary. Very clever, Kabril! Right away there is some really great sparks between them, and their scenes together are an absolute joy. But Kabril believes Rayna is not the woman of the prophecy, so he keeps his distance. And Rayna keeps her distance because she’s a bit nervous and likes Sachin and Kabril so much – they become fast friends. But Sachin, he knows more than he is letting on and he is very effectively pulling the strings on this whole scenario.
One thing I can say about Mandy Roth and her writing, she is really fantastic at creating these new worlds for her characters to live in. Not only do you connect with her characters very easily, but their world feels so natural you feel like you are there. Kabril and his people don’t live on Earth, although they are able to travel here at their leisure through portals. Their world is fantastic and full of different types of bird shifters. I’ve read several of her books now and she really has a knack for combining the paranormal/supernatural element with the human elements, and on top of that she can add sci-fi so well that it is all a seamless blend. If you haven’t read her work before, I highly recommend you get started in doing so.
King of Prey does not disappoint on the action aspect either. There are battles and torture, the stuff that really ups the ante on the drama. But there are also skin tingling sensual moments that are definitely not to be missed. Ms. Roth is so good as describing the world around her characters, I could definitely vision some fantastic fan art coming from this. In particular there is a water scene in this story that I think would be gorgeous in a painting!

Title: KING OF PREY
Series: King of Prey #1
Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance
Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content
Received from: Mandy M. Roth (in exchange for an honest review)
Grammar/editing: B - a few small errors
This is the first book in the King of Prey series. They do not need to be read in order, but I always recommend doing so anyway.
As a member of Mandy Roth's review teams, I received Prince of Pleasure a few weeks ago and loved it. My only complaint at the time was that I hadn't read any others in the series about the birdmen. Imagine my joy when this one appeared in my mailbox. I was not disappointed!!
Kabril, king of the Buteos Regalis (Royal Hawks), knows the prophecy. Children will not be born to his people until he has claimed his mate, and his fated mate is a human! Ugh! Once in the human realm, he meets his neighbor, Rayna, who quickly steals his heart. Rayna likes the foreign veterinarian who has settled in with his roommate, Sachin. Though they seem odd at times, she is quickly infatuated with Kabril. When his enemies kidnap Rayna, they both must face who and what Kabril is.
This was a great, quick read. It was quick, but never felt rushed. I absolutely loved it and I'm hoping I get to read another birdman book soon! The banter between Sachin and Kabril is laugh-out-loud funny as only two people who have known each for forever can be.

King Kabril must find a wife. The problem- there are no women he desires on his home world. A world of bird shifters. His advisor and best friend, Sachin suggest he look to the human realm. Humans who were dirty and relied on machines to fly!!!!!!
Kabril meets Rayna, an animal photographer and is instantly attracted to her. Kabril keeps his distance whilst trying to find his mate. Meanwhile, Sachin is coaching Kabril on the earthly courting rituals. Will Rayna accept the truth about Kabril or will his enemies find a way to steal her from him?
You will laugh out loud with the banter between Rayna and Kabril, which reminds me a bit of an old Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy movie. Sachin is fabulously Machiavellian in his background manoeuvring of the lovebirds (pun intended!!!) You will never look at Chicken Casserole and Chicken Divan in the same way again!!!!
Great short read (I read it in about an hour undisturbed) and introduction to the series!!!!

Kabril King of Buteos Regalis or better known as Hawk Shifters has no interest in taking a mate but in order for his people's survival he must do so.A prophecy speaks of fertility being restored and his mating with a human will do so. There's one catch he thinks human are vital and disgusting creatures the last place he want to go is to the the Planet of Earth.
Rayna Vogel,is left with no choice but sell the only home she grew up in her Grandmothers house, she can't live there any more it holds to many memories for he that hurt to much. She how ever lives in a house that connects through the backyard .When she has sold the house to a buyer and intends on meeting and greeting them to the neighbourhood.
She meets Kabril and there's a connection between them she can't quite place and it's the same for him. This story is filled with action, silly but cute attempts to woo a girl and would you just claim you mate already moments. I don't want to give to much away but I would highly recommend this book.

Such a good book! Well written and great detail. A great romance with funny and suspenseful themes .
King Kabril doesn't want any part of the prophecy of his people that says his fated mate to a woman with no wings ,a human woman at that, will restore the fertility of his people.Without his mating and producing heirs no one would conceive.
Rayna has been dreaming of a faceless warrior for some time now. She woke up turned on and frustrated because of the dreams. And then she meets her new neighbors. Kabril is a vet and specializes in birds, her favorite animal. After a strange start they form a friendship, although his mannerisms are very mid-evil to her. He tends to issue orders instead of asking her to do things. Which does cause some problems.
On a camping trip she is kidnapped and almost killed by Kabril's enemies She wakes up to a strange world and finds out bird shifters are real.
Can a King,a bird shifter and a human woman overcome their differences and cultures and find the love and acceptance they both crave? Or will it tear them apart?

This was a delightful read from beginning to end. The story introduction and the introduction for the lead characters were well developed. I laughed from the very beginning with this book.
You have a very stubborn ROYAL bird shifter who is not in the least bit happy to hear how he has to do what's right for his people. He seems to be facing the weight of the world on his shoulders to carry on their legacy. Not many people could bear such a burden but Kabril learns it's not such a burden after all and finds the one thing he didn't think was for him...love.
You have a kind and thoughtful woman who holds much sentiment for family. She finds herself alone and missing those chances to connect with the loved one she's lost. With human habits of welcoming neighbors she finds herself in a least expected romance of her own. She's stubborn but that stubbornness is tempered with heart for which the bird shifter kingdom could be in need of.
This story had me hooked from the very first pages. I laughed with so much of this book. It's a great beginning to the series. You don't see very many glimpses of the other family members for Kabril in this book but he does mention how many siblings he has and l look forward to reading each story.
I would definitely recommend reading this series in order to better enjoy the stories. AWESOME!

Mandy Roth starts a great new series with King of Prey, this is the story of Kabril and Rayna who are destined to be together from the Oracle's predictions, however we can enjoy the journey with them as they are both unaware of this fate for much of the book. The way the Roth plays this deliberate game of reverse psychology with both the characters is really fun, as is the culture clash of the two worlds as the characters get to know one another. Another reliable page turner, an easy and fun read that is just what I like to pick up in the evenings when I want to enjoy a book and not work to hard for that enjoyment!
My favourite moment is probably when Rayna first meets Kabril and his wing-man Sachin, who are just arrived and brings them a chicken casserole as a neighbourly gesture. The sense of humor that Roth brings to her writing is light and witty, whether situational or in their bantering dialogue.

Talk about a lovable--cocky--alpha shifter who is totally unprepared to love a human woman....King Kabril has to find his mate to keep his subjects fertile. No shifter female has fit the bill, however when the gods tell him he has to go to earth, oh yeah, they live in a different realm, he is disgusted. Earth women are dirty insignificant creatures. Wellllll, maybe not. When he reluctantly arrives he spots a woman who does fit the bill. Alas she is not his chosen one. Still he can't resist her. The dialogue is hilarious. Watching this alpha to the point of being obnoxious, male try to court an earth woman is a hoot. (pun intended as he is a bird shifter) from offering weeds as flowers to hiding why a chicken casserole is not exactly mouth watering is a fun romp. Add in an impending war and enemies out to hurt him any way they can and you have a really enjoyable read.

This is the first story in the shifter series and is the story of Shifter King Kabril and his human mate, Rayna! Kabril is the arrogant ruler of his land who thinks humans are beneath him and other bird shifters, but when their Oracle tells him that his mate will be a human he is livid! Forced to live in the humans world so he can meet and woo his mate Kabril meets instead Rayna whom he is attracted to, but learns she is not the one meant for him. He befriends her in the off chance of making her his mate instead of the one chosen from him. This is a very quick read with some action, but not a whole lot. The chemistry between our H/h is hot but their are only one or two sex scenes but the build up is excellent. There are more books in the series and I'm looking forward to reading them.

Thoroughly enjoyed learning about these bird shifters. Found that the conversation between King Kabril and his counselor, Sachin, to be very entertaining. And the ways that Kabril misuses human phrases is most amusing. Kabril enters the human realm in search of his prophesied mate. There he meets Rayna, a human woman that does not take lightly to someone commanding her or keeping secrets from her. When Kabril is arrogant, led by false pride, she stands up to him and puts him in his place. The unfolding of their love story is both charming and pleasurable. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five stars.

Kabril is the king of the Buteos Regalis, a shifter and must find a wife or mate for the prophecy of fertility for his people to be fulfilled. At the advice of his advisor and friend, Sachin, Kabril agrees to travel to earth to look for a mate since he has no desire to mate with any of the women on his home planet.
I love Mandy Roth and will read anything with her name on it; unfortunately, this book was not one of my favorites and not one that I would read again. IMO, Kabril did not come across as an Alpha or King of a species of shifters. I actually enjoyed Sachin more than Kabril! The book was an easy read with no major conflict or surprises……………..
Overall, I would rate the book 2.75

I was kindly sent this in exchange of an independent unbiased review (kindle version).
**What is good about it?**
Her grammar, spelling, and sentence structure were very well done. Kudos to Team Roth.
The brotherly word play, sparring, jabs etc between Kabril & Sachin were laugh out loud funny at times. I could picture them like my brother and I fighting about stupid stuff. Hilarious! Reyna being the typical good girl next door giving him such a hard time was expected but endearing… and the time frame of months was appropriate to “fall in love” instead of so rushed. The sex scenes were, frankly, HOT!!! You get an education about birds if you look up the realm names, and species reference they are real.. nice touch! When she described the houses, scenery, etc I could picture an Alaska or a Colorado backdrop outback in my minds eye and her character development is deeper in this book than in most of her others. You really can feel like you are sitting there hanging out with them.
**What doesn't work?**
nothing really stands out
**Summary**
Overall it was a quick entertaining read that kept me engaged with suspense, steamy imaginative scene erotica, physical & mental struggle and lots of laugh out loud moments. I would rate this a A-
As a voracious reader, I usually read books that take 3-12 hrs (300+ pages) to so it seemed short to me, not that it is a deterrent. It seemed priced slightly higher similar to other books of this genre and length (kindle version).
-----
My STARS ratings scale: 5. Excellent, 4. Good enough that I'd probably read it again, 3. Entertaining but it wasn't compelling/engaging/complicated enough for me read it again, 2. Some parts were ok but I'm irritated by some of it's problems 1. Just bad

King of Prey is a wonderful romance/action adventure novel. The main characters, Kabril and Rayna, share a chemistry that is palpable. The action starts on page one and continues throughout the book. This story has a wonderful flow to it that will keep you turning pages. I am a huge fan of Mandy Roth's work and this book is an excellent example as to why.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Mandy Roth's writing. Right from the start you get an alpha Kabril, King of the Buteos Regalia, bulking against a prophecy and the Oracle's stating he has to find a mate and that she will be a human. Yet once he sees a picture of young Rayna and meets her in person, he can not get control over himself quick enough. He immediately wants to take her back to Accipitridae to make her his queen. After a few stumbling blocks of Kabril's own making, he finally gets to make Rayna his queen. That is after Rayna gets captured and she gives Kabril a tongue lashing for torturing the Falco Peregrinus who saved her from another Falco Peregrinus soldier.

Mandy Roth has delivered yet another book that I wish was longer, but all in all was a wonderful word to escape into. I recommend this for a new read and series as there are apparently a lot of twins and triplets born to these sexy winged shifters. The synopsis did not do this book justice and I don't do spoilers so here is what I will say. The H hates humans, the h is human. The H has to go to the human world to woo a human mate that he is prophesied to have by the oracles to revitalize their race. He thusly meets the h and realizes that maybe human women are ok, but sadly his body guard and friend says this is not his destined mate. Then the book gets really good. Short read, but very good. excellent in between laundry loads book.

Still laughing! I loved this book! As always with Mandy's books this was a fresh look at shifters with a cool mix of another realm. Her female lead was fantastically feisty with such a great mouth on her. You just can't avoid liking her. The king now, he's harder to like but he's so annoying at times that he's kind of hard to resist too. His advisor I hope gets a book of his own just so he gets his comeuppance in falling in love and payback from the royal pair from the fun he had with them though, especially his king. I'm also hopeful to hear more about Lazar and all of the brothers. Overall this is a fun book with a great pace that will hold your attention well and make you laugh.

I loved this story. There are not very many bird shifter books out there, so that fact alone makes this series a bit unique. Mandy Roth brings her usual humor and unique brand of steamy romance to the table in this book. Kabril and Rayna are awesome characters and their story is wonderful.
Kabril is destined by prophecy to wed a human female, which is quite something considering how little he thinks about humans.
But Rayna is not at all what he expected.
This story is packed with hot romance, humor, and great story. You'll read it in one sitting and want to read the next in the series right away.

Please RateKing of Prey: (A Bird Shifter Novel)
King Kabril of Accipitridae(hawks) must face the prophecy that says fertility would be restored to his people if he takes a mate, but his mate is suppose to be in the Earth realm, those dirty, vile creatures and the last place he wants to look for a mate that he doesn't even want at all. Though their laws say he must do everything he can that is best for the kingdom. Now his advisor Sachin (395 years old and the only one who can speak back to the king), has spoken to the seers and oracle and tells the king they must go try to find her. He has made arrangements for a place to stay, since he should visit his soon to be bride an win her trust. Kabril thinks his hearing has gone bad after all she is just human why should he care if she trust him or not. Rayna Vogel dreamed of a warrior who seemed out of place, almost medieval, who took her to a castle high in the mountains...she was alone now and had let go of her grandmother's house in which the land touched her land. Rayna takes a chicken dish over to the house to meet the buyers but when she tells Sachin what it is , He tells her he knows some birds eat birds but where they are from that's simply not done. When Kabril and Rayna first see each other they have eyes only for each other and Kabril wants Sachin to tell him she is the one, which he won't.Has Sachin tells him how to woo a human woman this leads to unexpected outcomes. These three will make you laugh at the fun they have and you never know what one will say or how the others will react. He will lose it when she is taken. Mad at him and cursing him for his arrogance she doesn't pay attention even though she is in a strange place ,but finds herself in an even stranger place that's not on earth with Lazar (a falcon shifter). He tells her all the things that Kabril and Sachin didn't tell her and should have. After their talk Lazar thinks he made a mistake and doesn't think he should follow his orders.Learning their ruler sent another to make sure he does or to take the woman from him he must decide what to do. A fight that ended in a weakened Lazar falling into the freezing cold lake and Rayna going after him. Kabril knows her danger right away and rushes to her distress, on arrival sees her and the falcon lifeless in the water and he chooses to try to save her.She wakes in a different place, thinking she is dreaming again till she realizes she is in bed and not alone in a strange place. the battle between them last till mating to only start again when she wakes and just knows he is about to do something she will not like, so he gets up to find him and stop it. I loved the ending specially when he finally answers how many brothers does he have and how many were born at each time. I hope to read as Sachin, his brothers and Lazar find their mates.
