Sarah Dessen's books have been on my bookshelf for as long as I can remember. They are my go to repeat reads. I was fairly disappointed with The Moon & More. I felt like the story didn't really flow, and that there was no clear sense of what exactly the main character was searching for. Instead of finishing the book and feeling like it was all wrapped up I just felt confused. I just kept asking myself why Emmaline was even with Theo? All in all it wasn't a horrible book, it just lacked her typical essence and sense of self for the character.

I enjoyed the breezy nature of the story, very easy to read and be drawn into and easy on the heart. I enjoyed the portrayal of a young woman unafraid to lose a lover and personally satisfied enough to move on without drama.

I'm never disappointed with a Sarah Dessen book, and this one was no different. While I noticed the usual similarities in this book that I notice in here other novels, I noticed something different as well. The story line seemed more mature along with some of the dialogue.

This book is extremely different from other ones Sarah Dessen has written but I still found it interesting. The one thing that made me sad was just th fact that the male characters that were Emaline's love interest weren't all that interesting.

Sarah Dessen does it again. My new favorite summer novel. Read it in two days flat. Gripping. Compelling. Makes you think without really making you feel like you're thinking. A definite keeper on the bookshelf--or the iPad for that matter.

Quick easy read, but not as good as dessens other novels. The characters were repetitive and lacked depth as she tried to juggle too many supporting characters and their stories as well as dessens typical female lead.

I love Sarah Dessen and every one of her previous novels. For me To the Moon and More just fell short. I found myself rushing to finish the book, and not in the good way. I kept reading, hoping it would get better, and eager for it to be over. Maybe I felt this because I expected a wonderful love story as Sarah usually writes. I think for me I did not enjoy the book because it wasn't a love story. However, the novel was well written as always. I just really wanted to love one of the love interests which I didn't. I still LOVE Sarah Dessen, just not this book in particular.

Although it had a small dent on the plastic cover on top, everything else was in perfect condition. I hope next time it will be wrapped better, as it was not wrapped at all. Loved the book and it's a must have for Dessen's fans. ^^

I've been waiting for months for this book. Sarah Dessen is one of the best author and i own every book she has written. If you haven't read one of her books you are missing so much. My favorite is Lock and Key. For sure everyone needs to have at least read 1 book by her.

Usually, I love Sarah Dessen books. I own Just Listen, Lock and Key, That Summer, and This Lullaby. I have read all of her books though. The Moon and More was not her best book. It didn't give me the same thrill that the others did. And frankly, it was kind of boring. I think it should have had more of an interesting plot to it. Some secret, some mystery, something extra.

This book was terrible. The girl ends up single. I have never read a romance novel in my life where the main character ends up single at the end of the book, and I read a lot. Normally I like Sarah Dessen books, but the ending sucked. The part about her family and with her brother are nice though.

I have become such a big Sarah Dessen fan. Since the first book of hers I picked up, I've been eager to read more and more and more. One thing I really love about her books is that it's not just about the romance. There is some romance, but that's not what it's all about. I also love how each book has something that references another book. Like Tallyho or Spinnerbait. You always feel like you're in the same world because of those references and it makes you continue to connect deeply with each story.
In The Moon and More, Emaline has to discover what's truly important to her. At the same time, she has to come to terms with a doomed parental relationship, a break up, and leaving home to go off to college. It's a lot to take in for one summer and she doesn't always handle things the best. She's still an endearing character, because she never gives up, she's a hard worker and she truly and genuinely cares about other people.
I really enjoyed the ending of this book. It wasn't your typical ending and I appreciated that. It wasn't predictable, but it also fit the story very nicely.

Another great Sarah Dessen book. The story takes place during Emaline's last summer before heading off to college. She was working at her family's rental business, when a series of events was set off, and she is forced to reflect on many issues in her life, which she had largely ignored up to this point.
I really loved Emaline, and was hoping for everything to fall in to place for her. Her family was quirky, but filled with so much love. Their interactions were so typical, yet so sweet. It was a ton of fun looking in on them. I also liked how her relationship with her half brother grew to be quite special. Despite all the ways her biological father disappointed her, Emaline was able to separate her feelings from her bio-dad from her feelings for Ben. This was very mature, and one of many examples showing her growth during this tumultuous summer of change. So many fun and happy moments were shared, along with some tough and sad moments. There were beginnings and endings, but most importantly, there was change.
The ending put me off (just a touch) in that way of typical contemporaries. We got a little fast forward and found out a little bit of what happened after the end of the summer. But, alas, there was the open-endedness that always makes me nuts. I really wanted some closure on Emaline's romantic life. There was this moment, where I thought a decision would be made, but then it wasn't. Drat!
None the less, I was still left happy and with that warm and fuzzy feeling I expect from reading a Dessen book.

Book: The Moon and More
Author: Sarah Dessen
Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars
To me, Sarah Dessen is the Queen of Teen Romance. She has this way of drawing us into her world and making it next to impossible to put down. I have been a Sarah Dessen fan for a number of years. The Moon and More stays true to Sarah's style and takes us back to the beautiful ocean haven of Colby. So, three years ago, I picked this one up. (Wow, can't believe it's been that long.) I will say that I enjoyed this one a lot more than Saint Anything.
Emaline is waiting to start university. This is her last summer before heading off to school and she will be leaving all that she has ever known behind. She has been spending the summer working at her family's vacation house rental business and putting up with the craziness that comes with working with family. She has a prefect boyfriend, Luke, and great friends. However, when Theo arrives things change. She finds herself questioning her relationship with Luke and the complicated relationship she has with her absentee father. Thus, beings her search for her identify, which is the most common theme in Sarah Dessen's books. Now, this all does not happen because of Theo. However, he is a big reason as to why she starts to question everything. Emaline is a great. I loved reading from her point of view and found her to be a realistic character.
Theo was an okay male lead for me. I didn't fall in love with his character like I did with Emaline and the other love interests that Sarah comes up with. He was just kind of childish and a bit of a control freak. I thought there was something about him and Emaline that just did not click. You know what I'm talking about. The chemistry just wasn't there for me. He is the reason that the book only got a four star rating.
Perhaps my favourite thing about the book and all of Sarah Dessen's is how she takes every day, mundane things and turns them into a beautiful story. The Moon and More deals with the uncertainties of going to university, family ties, a little bit of romance, and frienships. It is the silly little things that make this book, such as a project filled dad and great adventures with friends. It is about trying to count a parent, who promised something big, and does not come through. It is realizing that everyone is flawed. It is these moments and more why I am huge Sarah Dessen fan. She has the ability to capture these things and put them on paper.
A great summer read! Sarah Dessen delivers an epic summer book, giving us the summer we always wished that we could have, with characters who we wish we either knew or were. This is one book that I have reread many times and I still love it.

Emaline, the main character, breaks up with high-school sweetheart Luke and in waltzes Theo, a NY film assistant who's in Colby for the summer to shoot a documentary about Clyde Conaway who was a promising painter a decade ago and then dropped everything to return to Colby and be anonymous again. At the same time her biological father appears in her life again. The father who stopped all contact and broke his promise to pay for her education at the university of her choice just like that. She's still trying to overcome her disappointment in him when he resurfaces and tentatively tries to reconnecting with him but that's not going to be easy. This must be my least favorite of Dessen's novels. I'm a they-lived-happily-ever-after kinda girl and I did not get this feel-good ending here. She definitely didn't follow the same sort of plot as in her other books and it may be more realistic this way, I was still not very happy with it. Furthermore, you don't really get to know Luke, and I couldn't like Theo. Even from the very beginning, I didn't find him likeable. Her father isn't likeable either. So I kind of missed the natural feel good and the romance she normally displays in her books.

I have begun to notice through reading all of her books though that a lot of details remain the same. It would be nice to get some more variety.
