I originally purchased "Passionate Bites: Hot Tales of Vampire Romance" and in it contained the second book of this series. So I had to purchase this book before I read the 2nd. I'm so glad that I did!! I have to say, I now have another favorite author to follow. Now I'm torn, do I continue reading the Passionate Bites book or do I continue with this series? I highly recommend this series, you won't be disappointed!!!

Wow! I'm overjoyed to have stumbled across this wonderfully rich, evocative story. Arial's prose flows so beautifully across the page it was simply a pleasure to read, and once I'd begun I couldn't put it down. I've fallen in love with Broderick--a troubled, slightly arrogant gypsy with a heart of gold--and Davina, a strong-willed woman who is his perfect counterpart. An intriguing plot with extremely well developed characters. An engaging blend of genres all encased in this one fantastic book! This story had me from the very first page, and kept me entranced until the very last--each chapter dripping with sexual energy and anticipation. A must read!!! Can't WAIT to read book two in this series. I've added Ms. Burnz to my favourite authors list. You should, too!

This book was frustrating to me for a while cause I felt it took forever for the two to get together, but I am very excited for book two. This is a different vampire book, not your typical one. I really enjoyed it

This was perhaps my quickest DNF to date since I have been reading Kindle books. Let me start by saying I love good vampire story's and have read many from well known authors like Bram Stoker to Indies. Series have been my favorite from series like The vampire Chronicles to The Vampire Diaries. I have often reread them because the storyline has substance beyond. Steamy innuendo and bedroom eyes. It is uncommon for me not to find something about a vampire novel that doesn't cause me to read to the end
This author attempted a loose historical period book which would have been okay with this reader but, also tried to come up with her own term for vampire that aren't any of the known variations. Sometimes this can work for an author and other times you throw a reader out of the story. This is what happened for me. The characters and their storyline was not enough to draw me in by 5% in it was going nowhere for me, and shaping up to be on one of those Fabioesc cover romances that lined the checkout lanes when I was young. Based on my experience I couldn't recommend this book to others.

It was a different approach to vampires, and held many twists and turns. The author leaves you with a finished story line but not the complete story. The twists and turns at the end were quite a surprise.

Davina and her maid Rosselyn loved visiting the gypsies when they were in town. One day they came to get their fortunes told. The fortune teller was a gorgeous beast of a man. He told them they had journeys ahead of them. Davina fell for him that day. She dreamt of him for 9 years until the gypsies returned. By then she was widowed by an abusive man and had an infant daughter. Now she must guard herself from this gypsy rogue before he claims her body as well as her heart. Broderick was a Vamsyrian, a blood drinker. He was on the revenge path against his sire and nemesis Angus for the murder of his entire family. He traveled with the gypsies trying to find Angus. Davina has also been on Broderick's mind over the years. This is a story of vengeance and love. Broderick has to be willing to give up even his life for the ones he's come to love and Davina must be willing to trust in her love. This is the beginning of a series and will leave you begging for more.

This was a great book, I really enjoyed the storyline. Davina dreams of a handsome gypsy fortune teller, whom she met a as young girl. After overhearing another gypsy woman who read her tea leaves without her knowledge, say she would steal his heart. Years later she has been married into an abusive relationship, and uses those dreams to help her to stay strong. Broderick is a super sexy, Vampire who is set on revenge for the death of his family. He travels with a gypsy caravan as a fortune teller in search of his enemy, the one who killed his family! He meets Davina as a young girl and as he reads her palm, he tells her she will have difficult times ahead but to stay strong. Then years later the Gypsy caravan comes back into town, and with it Angus Campbell , Brodricks enemy. This was an awesome book. I ready for the next one! I received this Arc in exchange for an honest review.

Let's preface this review with some small factoids to let you know if this is your genre... This is a historically placed paranormal romance with a slight thriller element when deciphering what the characters are getting up to or getting themselves into...
A slow burn with many delicate layers that are pulled back to reveal secrets and blood, the story opens up the world of the supernatural in Scotland...
Love, hate, obsession...
Cruelty & cunning...
Even with events flowing in a manner you thought to expect, there will be some unexpected turns for the characters revealed throughout leaving behinds moments of wondering...
Overall, the story and characters were carefully written & formed to hedge your interest in the entire series...
I look forward to the next installment...
Please bear in mind I received this book as a freebie in exchange for an honest review

Midnight Conquest, Book #1 of the Bonded by Blood Vampire Chronicles
Author: Ariel Burnz
Synopsis: Masked in a Gypsy guise, Broderick MacDougal hides his vampiric identity while seeking to destroy the man who slaughtered his family. When an old Clan rival ensnares Broderick in a trap using an enticing widow, he is compelled to discover if she is bait or an accomplice, and the cinnamon-haired beauty is his next conquest.
Widow of an abusive husband, Davina Stewart-Russell clings to the only image that gave her strength during those dark times--the Gypsy rogue who stole her heart as a youth. After nine years, she is finally face-to-face with him again, but reality clashes with fantasy as she is confronted with Broderick's passionate pursuit.
When Davina's past returns to haunt her, Broderick is forced to reveal a dark secret worse than anything Davina thought possible. The challenge before them has fatal risks and neither of them is prepared for the sacrifices expected for the sake of eternal love.
Our Review [Notes provided by Jennifer Vayda]:
As the story begins and you are first introduced to Broderick, he's in really bad shape; a blood slave to a women who just wants to use him, confronted by an enemy who just wants to destroy him, and faced with an almost impossible decision... To live, or die, and how best to get revenge.
You also meet a 13 yr old Davina. Young and carefree, she enters a Gypsy camp and is bewitched by the many wonders of Gypsy life. While there, she runs into a Gypsy fortune teller who says she must get her fortune told. While doing so, Davina comes upon this handsome, dangerous looking man, who is oddly comforting to her as well. Her fortune is thus: Be strong and always look ahead. Life will have it's ups and down but you will be O.K!
As Davina grows up, her life is not what she expected. There is a war going on and she is confronted by way too much death, fighting, and betrayal. The life changing events she encounters while maturing are chaotic and she feels at times they could end up being cataclysmic. She tries to keep the faith and do what she was told in that Gypsy camp by that handsome, mysterious man that she can't get out of her thoughts--to be strong and keep going-- but she doesn't always have the will to follow through and wonders if she WILL be O.K, or if she'll ever meet her wonderful mystery man again...
The book had a unique plot and the background, setting, and character building were vividly painted by the author. You felt as if you were wisked back in time and were living the drama with the characters from 16th Century Scotland.
It's a long one, over 1500 pages, so it's not for those that want a quick read, but it's a non-stop page turner that you won't want to put down, and it'll make you want to laugh, cry, and scream at pertinent junctures the whole way through.
LITERAL ADDICTION Paranormal Book Club gives Midnight Conquest 4 ½ Skulls.
We definitely recommend it for dedicated Adult readers that love Paranormal Romance, Vampires and even those who enjoy Historical Romance novels with HEA endings. We're looking forward to what Ariel brings us with book #2 of the Bonded by Blood Vampire Chronicles.

In 1486 Broderick is turned into a vampire but they are called Vamsyrian. He can choose to be a vampire or be healed by GOD and join the Army of Light. He wants revenge against the man who killed his family so he becomes a vampire.
In 1501, Davina has her fortune told by a gypsy. She is told she will face great sadness before she can be happy. She falls in love with the gypsy fortune teller.
In 1513 she is married to an abusive man. She has miscarried once and when her husband goes off to war, she finds out she us pregnant again. Her husband, brother, and father are all killed in the war. Now the gypsies have came back to town and Broderick with them. He is still hunting his enemy but can't stay away from Davina. She goes between wanting him to trying to stay away from him. Can he protect her and all he loves or will his enemy take them from him?
I'm not a fan of historical books. I stopped reading because it didn't hold my attention but then I started reading it again and couldn't put it down. A sexy, gypsy Vampire. A Scot lass. A crazy gypsy girl. A vengeful vampire. And tons of secrets.

Arial's writing style is really easy to delve into and while the story is a historical paranormal romance, you could easy forget the historical part since it's just part on the setting and not really centre in the story here. Now I do love history so I wouldn't have minded but here is was even more easily forgotten because you focus on the characters and the story which could have happened anywhere, anytime. The rhythm is just what he should be not too fast, not too slow and action and romance are well mixed ( some really steamy scenes too!!)
This is the first book of a series (which will count 6books) but there isn't a cliffhanger at all, you are left wanting more but have closure for this part of the story so you can be happy. Oh I want to read more and I'm glad to have book 2 and 3 but even if I have to wait I have a feeling of satisfaction which is a great thing once you turn the last page of a story.
You have 2 villains in this one... one immortal and one mortal... the immortal one, Angus, is important for the rest of the story and here we learn part of his motivations. Now he does act cruelly, he has a tortured and twisted mind but t the same time, in this first volume, I couldn't really hate him. I don't approve what he has done, far from it, I don't like him for sure but I expected more from him I guess^^ (yes I have sadistic mind more important than the author sometimes;)) ...he could have done a lot worse but didn't so when you takes that into account and you compare with the human Villain Ian...you don't take long to choose who to hate.
Ian, is human and married to Davina but he is all what a man shouldn't be.. he is cruel , he tortures small animals ( I hate that!!) but also his wife and he doesn't hesitate to beat her even when she is pregnant... worse even baby are not safe from him....he is the monster without a doubt...
Also he is greedy and his motivations are simply that power and money....while I could partly understand Angus motivations those from Ian are simply inexcusable.... I'm not even sure Angus would tolerate him and that saying a lot (but don't worry like précised in the summary this book does have a Happy end and that include revenge on Ian)
I was really interested in the story and it's only because I had to go to sleep that I stopped reading...the gypsies are interesting characters too, and welcoming and open minded. I hope we will see more of them. .. oki Veronique is the exception but she paid the price so she doesn't count. Now curiously...one I didn't appreciate immediately was Davina's Father...he sounded wrong to me especially since at that time he could have cancelled the marriage after the first hit no question asked. She wouldn't have lost her dowry (yes that's something we often forget, at middle age, women had more rights and more protection than later (sometimes we regress... Napoleon fault) he tolerated it just for his advantage and then we learn he was probably even worse. Kerh is loyal brother and he tried to do his best to protect her sister like he did as a child... he would have made a great lord.
We also get some information about the vampire system in this universe.. the vampires called Vamsyrian must obey some rules... it's forbidden to change someone in vampires...each one must make the willing choice, after having heard from both side, to become a vamsyrian or a member of the light, of the army of God, their opposite. One group is immortal, fears the sun and is " dead" during the day, the other is mortal but has some powers and protection. We don't really learn a lot about them yet but in next books probably, only that there are some prophecies for both groups.
If you love vampires romance, it's really an excellent book and the author is really kind which is only a great bonus....also since it's free you don't have anything to lose so to try. To recommend

Davina Stewart Russell has long held onto childhood dream told to her by gypsy fortune teller. Davina holds onto the strength in her heart for she'll need it in the future. Davina is barely hanging on at this time in part thanks to her husband Ian's abusive ways. Yet she knows that rescue is in sight either. Davina's father doesn't trust Ian to be a proper husband or manager of finances either. Broderick MacDougal is Vampsyrian that uses the guise of a gypsy fortune teller to help Amice and her granddaughter Veronique. Broderick has spent his immortal life learning ways to help him be able to fight Angus Campbell. Broderick wants to end this feud between them sooner rather than later. Broderick does his nightly fortune telling when he meets Davina again. Broderick can't seem to get Davina out of his mind or his heart. Davina isn't the trusting soul she used to be. Davina doesn't really let anyone into her heart and soul easily. Davina is intrigued by Broderick yet very leery of him as well. Will Davina let Broderick into her heart? Can Broderick gain Davina's trust? Will Broderick find Angus? Your answers await you in Midnight Conquest.
I've read alot of vampire books but none like this one which is paranormal historical romance that's quite a mouthful to say let alone type. I'll say this though it is not your typical historical or paranormal romance despite the setting. Here's why the author did a really great job of blending the two groups together in such a way that was seamless from beginning to end. I'm really glad I got the opportunity to read this book. The characters were rich and bold as well as completely real. I'm definitely looking forward to this author's next book and continuing this series too.

3.5/5 stars
Midnight Conquest begins with how Broderick becomes a vampire. The reader is given a brief glimpse on why he consented to this path and who were involved. We also meet Davina as a young girl. When the gypsies come to town, she has her fortune read by Broderick. Although her future was not predicted to be a happy one, she becomes infatuated with the gypsy, and this gets her through the dark times ahead. Moving forward, Davina is older and in an abusive marriage. For those who are concerned about reading domestic violence (as I know some reader are), there really isn't much "live" action written. Rather, it is reflected upon - such as bruising. There is more of a psychological abuse in the beginning. (I will say, however, that there is violence in the book - especially at the end.) Eventually, her husband (and her father and brother) go to fight and die in battle. Within a year, they gypsies come through again, and this time Broderick is with them. Will Davina's young girlish fantasy break? Will she find out about his dark blood drinking secret? Will Broderick bring an old family feud to Davina's doorstep?
The story is written in third person mainly following Davina and Broderick. Davina, as mentioned above, has had an abusive marriage. Her trust in love is fragile, even after her husband's passing. She misses her brother and father, as well. No one seems to want to talk about them due to grief. Broderick had also lost his family but to a clan dispute. He now prepares and hunts the one man responsible for his family's death. On the other side of things, Broderick is straightforward with his intentions and seductions to Davina. Although he has the ability to read minds (especially while feeding), Davina's mind is harder to read - but not impossible. This was not explained why in the book. Perhaps it has to do with her trouble past and blocking things mentally? Broderick is an alpha male. There was an obvious attraction between the two, but I would have liked to see a little more development in the relationship beside sexual appeal. Besides looks/arousal and common deaths in the family, what else did they see in each other that would cement their relationship? This part was skimmed over, in my opinion. The husband was one-dimensional in the story, but the other "bad" guy turned out to be more dimensional. [I am vague due to spoilers.] I did like Amice, the old gypsy woman who also works as a fortune teller.
The story was interesting. I admit I was hesitant with the domestic violence, but I was fine as I read it. There were some twists along the way - two of which I did not see coming. The one secret revealed in the story seemed out of place, which made me wonder why it was put there. However, by the end of the book, I noticed the connection. The ending leaves off for another book to follow but does not stop in the middle of climax. Character histories are included throughout the book, but I would have liked to learn a little more about how the council (vampire, that is) works.
Overall, I liked the book. If you like vampires and paranormal historical fiction, then you might want to give this book a try.

Midnight Conquest by Arial Burtz
I normally do not read vampire or romance but since I've read a short piece by this author before, I did. Ms. Bunrtz is a talented writer. The cover of the book is also eye catching too for those who like big brawny Scottish Highlanders.
Since I don't read much on ereaders, I found it difficult to get through 1500 pages albeit the enjoyable, certainly not boring, colorful tale set in 1500' Highlands, Scotland. Men in kilts, nice - if only... have you been to Scotland? Nary a kilt nor big brawny.
We get a slightly different view on vampires or as Ms. Burtz calls thenm, vamsyrian. They are ruled by a council, subject to strict laws, kill to survive and have no humanity. Sorry, the council lies, we learn.
The story begins with Broderick, the main character, and blood everywhere and him in such bad shape, a blood slave for females, and an enemy who wants to destroy him confronts poor vampire guy. He must decide to live, die, OR get revenge. Door #3 please.
An old clan rival, Angus, catches Broderick by using a hot widow, Davina Stewart-Russell, and being a studly vampire, he is drawn to her, but questions if she's Angus'bait to catch him or an accomplice. Women, can't trust them, Broderick
The widow has her own issues: scares from her dead wife-beating husband, a hung up on a past romantic tryst with Gypsy rogue no-good, but in bed good, lover from her youth, who, after nine years, come together. Then there is Broderick, the hunk and the passion between Davina and him and will the rogue live up to her long fantasy?
As most passionate love story (made-up or real life) goes one is challenged for the sake of eternal love. Not a new plot and one many can identify with.
This novel is recommended for mature readers as some parts are juicy, and I don't mean the blood parts.

ARC. The storyline was interesting. The series begins as a historical vamp tale. This is the reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I'm not really intrigued by historical stories, romance or not. Having said that, however, this particular book kept my attention well. The characters were very well developed and the storyline kept within the confines of the vampire romance lines. The erotic parts come a bit later. There is some violence, but I didn't find it too graphic. If you like historical books that stretch the love between two hearts over time, you'll like this book. Even if historical pieces aren't your thing, the romance and/or vampires will definitely keep you coming back. Recommended.

This was a well-written, entertaining book. set in medieval England which involved a Gypsy vampire and a widow. It was a very complex, detailed story. Both main character's backgrounds were fully described, as was their courtship. It moved quickly. It included some explicit sex scenes and some scenes of violence, though they were described carefully. I look forward to continuing on to read the rest of the books in this series. I received a copy of this story in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this historical, paranormal romance of clan feuds, jealousy, betrayals, vengeance and vampires set in Scotland. Davina has had a rough time in the 9 years since she first met Broderick, a gypsy fortune teller. Married to an abusive husband who is thought to have died in a battle, she is a young widow and mother when she next encounters Broderick. Davina struggles with the reality of Broderick versus the dream lover she has fantasized about for so long. Broderick is protective and caring Vamsyrian with a bit of the rogue in him. I felt the cat and mouse hunt between Broderick and his enemy, Angus, was a bit repetative and drawn out. When they finally end up face to face in combat, there is no resolution or winner. So I suppose this conflict will be resolved in another book in the series.

The reader will first notice the cover; eye-catching and alluring the cover will pull the readers in. The novel is very long, but this shouldn't deter a dedicated reader. The main characters are both very easy to get to know and enjoy reading about. The reader will like their quirks and qualities. The plot isn't terribly unique, but it is far from boring and will hold the readers interest. The book contains scenes of domestic abuse, a quality that only heightens the novels intrigue. Domestic abuse is an issue that shouldn't be ignored or swept under the carpet, the author handles the issue admirably. There is no cliff-hanger and the ending is very satisfying. This novel is recommended for readers who enjoy paranormal romance (adults or young adults).

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Midnight Conquest from the start. I love the paranormal and vampire books so it was perfect for me. I felt for the characters and read the whole book in one sitting I was so glued to it. It has a little bit of everything. I've never read a book with any abuse in it and I thought the Author did a very nice job without making it uneasy to read. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Midnight Conquest (Bonded By Blood Vampire Chronicles Book 1)

Romantic tension, explicit (very hot) sex, vampire action going back to the 16th century, action, adventure, revenge, torment, defeats and victories, this book has it all but it somehow works as the writing is actually quite good and characters multi-dimensional. It's not your "run of the mill" vampire story but rather is a pretty darn good book and one I'm happy to recommend.

This book is awesome!! It has everything to love about a vampire novel. One hot vampire, check, the woman he falls in love with, check, hot romance, double check. Even though the book is what I like to call full sized it is worth every minute of your time. I was sorry when it ended. All of the characters are well written and are perfect for the story. No character is too small to enhance the story. I highly recommend this book!! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So to start, Ms. Burnz begins by writing she is not a historical romance writer and discusses time periods about the story. This was to my relief because this is a genre that I don't care for.
As I am reading the story, I find myself spending a lot of time looking up works that I have never encountered. The language was, I believe, old English, which is not my fortey.
I enjoyed the plot of the story, choice of Army of Light vs. Vamsyrian is interesting. The characters are well described and responsibilities within the household seem appropriate for the time period.
I am intrigued as to how the next book will reveal itself however unsure if I will enjoy it due to having to concentrate more on the language then the plot.
