And I mean UNBELIEVABLE, this is quite a story, however, some of the cruelty of this fragile, undernourished young lady, beaten so savagely that it is inconceivable that she could survive and be strong enough to do construction work on a flat that had to be 'gutted ' which takes the strength of very able bodied human beings. Common sense just wouldn't let me imagine this part of this great book. Believe me, I had to read every page because most of it is riveting and believable.......I also wanted a much greater reunion when she was united with her loved ones after almost 8 years of not knowing where she was or IF SHE was ........Natasvha , you are absolutely one of the greatest human beings I have ever read about , and would count myself lucky to meet you, shake your hand and embrace you. Natasha I trust you will have a very happy and loving family of your own soon. Much love!!

This was... terrible. Terrible in the sense of her experiences, but amazing in the sense of her writing.

She conveyed so well how she managed to stay strong. Her focus always lay on turning 18 and therefore becoming an adult.

Amazing book and I just feel like hugging her.

A "difficult" book but so inspirational. What courage and determination in such a young person. This book teaches you not to take things for granted and also how you can find strength to get through any situation. Whatever you are struggling with there are people who have overcome worse situations ...so you can overcome as well.

Author wrote the book with integrity and with forthright knowledge of every detail that she was experiencing. I found the book a return to read when other books of similar nature were dull. It's amazing her survival at all, based on what was experienced during her ordeal. I've recommended it to others for a good read.

After reading this book you feel so privileged to be free, to be able to do anything you want in the world.
So many people bitch about nothing all the time. Happiness is a choice, at least for most of us who have every possibility to be happy. I enjoy life tremendously, all those simple things that most people take for granted. Nature and animals are amazing, full of wonder and beauty and breathtaking details, and I never get tired of observing them.
Choose to be happy, people! Every night when you go to sleep, thank for all the good things you have in your life, for all the good things you have been opportunity to see and experience. Bad experiences on the other hand are lessons, and if you are able to learn something from them (you learn even if you don't feel like it), you have won, and are on your way!
Gratitude is the key to happiness. Try to be a better person every day!

3,096 Days is a uniquely fascinating book that not only details the victim's experience and conditions so clearly that you can virtually see things through her own eyes, but also delves into her speculations on the psychology of her abductor and intelligently explores her own reactions and survival mechanisms. I was amazed at how insightful and well-written she is, especially considering her age and the closeted existence she led for nearly half her life. She writes eloquently but in her own voice, in which her sometimes humorous adolescent attitudes frequently show through, as when she describes her relationship with her family before the abduction, or when she ridicules some of the absurd demands made upon her by the kidnapper. Her frank and matter-of-fact manner almost minimizes the horrific beatings and deprivations she underwent, until you realize that mentally removing herself was one way she coped with the perceived hopelessness of her situation. Perhaps most saddening of all is her discovery that, even after her escape, she is still not truly free because of the confinements placed upon her by others. But throughout her ordeal she remained, and remains, a strong and determined young woman, and I am confident she will survive.

I still cannot believe Natascha has survived this nightmare.
As for her reactions after she ran away, nobody can judge her, ordinary experiences in life already change our way of seeing life, and all the suffering and anguish have for sure affected her personality.

This book is amazing, because the author remembered details so well; and she is so intelligent. I wanted to read what she went through all those years, and I wanted to know what her kidnapper was like and how he treated her.

I enjoyed this book. It was very thorough and interesting. I wish she would've disclosed everything, such as the sexual abuse and maybe more journal entries to give the reader the entire picture. Things have come out in the media since the book, that would have been interesting to read directly from her. Overall though, it was hard to put down and a very interesting true crime story
