Review:I adore Eat, Pray, Love for a variety of reasons. This book however, is not Eat, Pray, Love. Thankfully, it doesn't pretend to be. My advice: don't read "Committed" if you are hoping to lose yourself in a compelling story, because you might get bored. Read it if you are interested in learning about marriage - what it is and what it is not, why it sometimes works and why it sometimes doesn't - and are prepared to examine your own assumptions about this beautiful yet fraught concept.

Review:Under the Tuscan Sun is a wonderful and humorous look at what happens when an American couple decides to purchase and convert an ancient pile of stone rooms into a home in the Italian countryside. The book reveals how cultural differences and the elements can conspire to slow the progress of even the most diligent expatriate. Mayes shows us with love and humor what it took for her to finish her project, while she falls deeply in-love with her new land.
The book is a joy to read. I heartily... Read more
Review:I have read "WALK IN THE WOODS" twice. I find him refreshingly funny and witty, have not read one of his books that I haven't enjoyed. Hope to find others available on Kindle to read. Everyone should read at least 1 Bill Bryson book!! Read more
Review:Bill Bryson's idea of "discovering" America is driving a few hundred miles to a new city each day, and stepping no more than 25 paces away from his car. No wonder he's so bitter over everything he finds! Everything he sees is covered with concrete, greasy spoon restaurants and annoying tacky tourists. We don't get any useful information about any place he visits, only cynical commentary on the local fat people, or obnoxious tourist trap. There are a few funny moments, but most of his writing... Review:He's Bill Bryson: it's going to be hilarious. I think the people who are taking offense to the book have forgotten that the voice he writes with is genuine and very much his own. Sure, the cities he visits and their inhabitants are portrayed as caricatures, but I'm just grateful he does not hesitate to make fun of himself either. If you're looking for a more comprehensive, lyrical version of Lonely Planet, look elsewhere. Read more
Review:This book tells MC's early years. From his medical studies, when he wrote novels using pseudonyms to support himself to some of his adventures, some you wouldn't imagine.
If you like his books, you should read this one to get to know him a little bit more even though it is a pretty old book, he should write a newer Bio. Read more
Review:If you are a cyclist, then you might enjoy this book more than I did. The author's focus was mainly on how he traversed the Tuscan Hills. I also did not care for the way he subtlety interjected his political viewpoints ( Republican), on farming subsidies. Overall, I would not recommend this book. Not about the Italy I know and love. Review:Not my usual reading but I really enjoyed the book. Fascinating true story, well written by Melinda Blanchard. Eye-opening with regards to cultural differences and bureaucratic red tape. Fast, easy read. Definitely recommend. Read more
Review:This is a gorgeous book with a wonderfully put together list of places to travel. Having been to a few of these, I can say they truly deserve a space on the list. This book definitely gives me major wanderlust. It would be an excellent coffee table book or gift for any intrepid traveller, or really for anyone that appreciates the diversity of beautiful places throughout the world. HOWEVER, my book arrived with several blank pages, I'm assuming due to a printing error. Destinations #4, 5, 7, 8, 1... Read more
Review:I purchased the thick paperback edition in 2003 and have used and enjoyed it often. I like the commentary and background.
In preparing for a trip to Italy, I got the Kindle edition so I would not have to lug the book or photocopy the pages I wanted to bring.
Boy was that a mistake. The Kindle edition is so sparse. I was under the mistaken impression it would have the same content as the paper version.
