Supernatural
Review:Engaging and a huge relief from the "tough girl falls for big bad guy" dreck that floods the market. The characters are believable. There's no sudden super talent to suddenly save the day, either. I'd recommend starting at the beginning of the series, but only because each book adds slowly to the bigger story. You might have to look up some of the slang if you're not familiar with the modern UK. Read more
Review:The first quarter started a little slow, but once the plot coalesced, things got interesting. British Harry Dresden, crossed with grown up Harry Potter. Good stories with just the rot amount of humor. Well done. Read more
Review:Ben Aaronovitch's "Broken Homes" is the fourth in his "PC Peter Grant" series. Again, if you've enjoyed the previous books in the series, you'll like this one. It's simultaneously both light-hearted and dark in tone, and is a fast-paced paranormal murder mystery with excellent characterizations, wonderful vocabulary, and well-done world descriptions (though perhaps a bit too London/police oriented). Unfortunately, as with the previous book, Aaronovitch has continued using bad grammar whenever... Read more
Review:This book series came highly recommended by a Scottish knitting blogger and has proven very worthy of the praise given. Though not a genre I'm especially familiar with, I'd found the writing entertaining and interesting, and enjoyed the characters and story. I'd put the second book in the series on my Kindle as soon as I'd finished this book, and have since acquired 3 more books in the series for my Kindle, too. It will be interesting to see whether this becomes optioned for a television seri... Read more
Review:The plot thickens ! Ben Aaronovitch continues to weave police procedural into intriguing urban fantasy with this book, though as the mysteries across the series continue to mount, I wonder when we'll see any actual denouement for any of the ongoing intrigues. Read more
Review:Spelltastic! Rapacious! Phenomenal! Cassie Palmer has opened a can of "whoopass" in Hunt the Moon. Karen Chance has created an urban fantasy junkie's dream! You can find it all in this gem, time travel, vampires, demons, fey, and mages to name a few. Cassie is beyond awesome, her ability to make you come back for more is endless. Hot and steamy vampire love with the sexy and dominate Mircea, are what dreams are made of. Pritkin sheds his duster and gives us a glimpse of the man underneath... Read more
Review:Two and a half stars...
The only reason I probably got through this book with a decent understanding of it is because I happened to read her Dhampir series first. Had this been the first Karen Chance novel I read, I would have been left scratching my head in confusion at the end. She throws a LOT at you in the book, trying to set up the characters and world. So much so that I, like other readers, felt the book was abbreviated in some way-- as if parts had been edited out. Overall, it ... Read more
Review:Surely, someone has pointed out to Mr. King by now that Storm of the Century contains a historical inaccuracy....loved the "Lost Colony" tie-in, but they disappeared from Roanoke Island(Manteo),North Carolina NOT Roanoke, Virginia! Glad to get this off my chest...it's been bugging me since the miniseries! By the way, I am a King fan!! Read more
Review:I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and believable, the story is engaging and well-paced, the wiring is detailed and rich with imagery, and the action is fun and makes the book hard to put down.
I was surprised at some of the other reviews Thay said that the dialog was tortured or the wiring was redundant. I didn't find it so at all. Some of the metaphors are interestingly-chosen, but for me that made it fresh and fun. The author is not afraid to poke some fun a... Read more
Review:Almost didn't download this.....but I read the description and......who wouldn't dive into another Amanda Lee book? New characters define this beginning, as well as the people from her Wicked Witches of the Midwest series. Entertainment , mystery and hopefully even more adventures......well done! Read more
