Lirael (Old Kingdom Book 2)
Lirael (Old Kingdom Book 2)

Review:While wandering through the local bookstore four years ago I came across Sabriel in the Young Adult section. Noticing the cover I picked it up and read the first chapter. I was hooked. I must have read the copy I bought that day at least 40 times. I became such a fan of Mr. Nix's writing that I named my cat Mogget! But I digress, as I understood it Mr. Nix was supposed to only write a sequel. Lirael turned out to be the second book in a trilogy, the third to be the forthcoming, Abhorsen. Well, a... Read more

Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad)
Nyxia (The Nyxia Triad)

Review:This is going to be a series to watch without a doubt!

Though it contains the cliché requirements found in so many YA books, Reintgen turned them into something magical with a fantastic level of diversity and a bit of something reminiscent of that cult favorite movie – Starship Troopers which coincidentally is about to become part of pop culture again with a rumored sequel that is actually worthy to be part of the name. It also has a bit of Hunger Games – esque quality to it with the idea... Read more

The Merciless
The Merciless

Review:Merciless is a hard book to review.
I Really liked some aspects of it, but there are others that I just didn’t care for.

First I want to say I was initially drawn in by the looks of the book. I mean this is a hot pink hardcover and it is absolutely stunning. I love that there is no dust jacket and that it has this awesome canvas feel. The only thing that really gets me is the actual cover. I don’t like that there is a pentagram/or pentacle (whichever you want to call it) on the cover.... Read more

The Last Magician
The Last Magician

Review:It became so clear that Lisa Maxwell is a skilled writer. She wove a tremendous story with plenty of twists to keep me turning the pages. She made me care about what happened to the characters, leaped through the time continuum, and provided a bit of humor along the way. The ending didn't surprise me, but it was fulfilling nonetheless. At times, I felt lost as she switched settings/characters often then tied it all back together eventually. My ONLY criticism was the entire read didn't feel like ... Read more

Book 1) - Book 1 of the Ascendance Trilogy - The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy
Book 1) - Book 1 of the Ascendance Trilogy - The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy

Review:3.5 Stars, but rounding down because the story wound down the further it went.

It's the story of an orphan boy who gets selected to replace the missing heir of a kingdom's royal family. The scope of the story covers the boys training and competition with two other boys, also selected as possible princes.

The writing was excellent. I really liked Sage, he had a very engaging voice. The secondary characters were also interesting and well developed.

I thought the author did ... Read more

Made You Up
Made You Up

Review:I've always been a fan of psychological books, and this one has got to be one of my all time favorite YA books that fall under that category. There's just something about unreliable narrators that I really love.

Alex and Miles and everyone else were such likeable characters, and she definitely grew and changed as the story progressed.

What I really love about this book is how it intertwines external and internal factors, rather than focusing on just one. But it was done in a way wh... Read more

My Heart and Other Black Holes
My Heart and Other Black Holes

Review:Dear Reader: The is a review of My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga. It was certainly an interesting read but I feel like I needed more information than the book was giving. It's a very dark plot; a story about a girl who sees no light left in the world and decides that she is going to take the quicker way out. She will kill herself to rid the world of the daughter of a murderer. Via the internet and a website, she finds a boy who wants nothing more than to do the same. He is mournin... Read more

The Last Time We Say Goodbye
The Last Time We Say Goodbye

Review:Such a beautiful story. You will not regret picking up this book. There's so many laughs and tears. For me, this story was a small part of my past in two ways. It's just so beautiful and reminds you that life is good even if at times it might not seem like it and that we need to be aware of others who might be suffering, lend a hand or ear to listen, do something rather than later regretting you didn't. You can make a difference. Read more

Love & Gelato
Love & Gelato

Review:Pretty good book. Ultimately, a little short. If you buy this because you already have an affinity for food & Europe, you'll be frustrated with the protagonist for just being so dull to these wonderful things. You've never had gelato? So, you just don't walk down the ice cream isle at Cub? Read more

Torment (Fallen, Book 2)
Torment (Fallen, Book 2)

Review:"When Daniel kissed her, Luce knew in her bones that he was her past. Folded into his embrace, she was desperate for him to remain her present. But the second their lips parted, she couldn't really be sure he was her future."

I am still torn on this series. I do love that in this book it seems to become, for the character anyway, about what is real to her. She is starting to rely less on the feelings of those around her and examining what she can trust about herself. By the end, I real... Read more
