Social & Family Issues
Review:It is extraordinarily difficult for me to gather my thoughts on this book into coherent form. You can tell by this sampling of my notes:
pg 97 tears already
PAGE 197 CHILLS I HAVE ACTUAL GOOSEBUMPS
pg 249 why
So, forgive me the rambling quality of this review.
THE SERPENT KING is a book about salvation and family and what we inherit and what we make of ourselves. It touches on poverty, mental illness, abuse, and religion--all difficult topics, all handled deftl... Read more

Review:So overall I enjoyed the book. Bianca and Wes were fun, damaged and flirty. There are a bunch of great one liners. And Bianca's flaws were very real and I found myself thinking this girl was strong but vulnerable. I would recommend this book as a good beach read. My only major problem with the book is that I think the author attempted to tackle too much and then just swept major issues (ie divorce, alcoholism, and abandonment) to a quick resolution. I still think these issues needed to be in... Read more
Review:3.5 stars
When seventeen-year-old Clea, the daughter of a wealthy Senator, returns home after a vacation in Europe, she discovers the image of a strange man in a lot of the photographs she took. The man appears in the background of her photos, in strange positions, one even shows him suspended in the air. The man follows her into her dreams, where the intimacy between the two of them almost feels tangible. When Clea and her friend Ben-who is totally in love with her-head to Brazil to inve... Read more
Review:I received this book for an honest review.
This book would be a great read for all teenagers. It delves into some very difficult situation no teenager should have to go through. The bullying described in this book is severe and I hope and pray if even one teenager reads this book who bullies and stops when they see how much hurt it causes them this book is worth ievery read! Also, if any person going through the difficult situation this girl does in the book hopefully they will learn tha... Read more
Review:So before Lock and Key I was completely unfamiliar with Sarah Dessen's work, oblivious to the existence of her novels. After reading this novel though, I don't think I'll ever pass up another of her novels, like ever. Lock and Key is a captivating, moving, heartfelt story of a girl trying to find her way after all the detrimental experiences she's had to endure and learn to move forward.
I have to say that I've never been a fan of novels that don't primarily focus on romance, love, and re... Read more
Review:The decent middle and end made up for the terrible beginning.
Spoilers!
Firstly: The character's mother was in a terrible relationship yet she's pushing her teenage daughter into getting into a serious relationship at an early age. Seems a little unlikely but also what kind of mother is freaking out over her 17 year old daughter still being single. If she were in her 30s or even late 20s, I'd kind of understand but what message are you sending to young girls out there? If you don't... Read more
Review:This, personally, is my favorite Stephanie Perkins book. I liked it far better than Anna And The French Kiss and Lola And The Boy Next Door. Perhaps it's because I felt more of a connection with Isla.
This book is genuinely amazing. It had me laughing out loud and then sniveling in the sad scenes. Being 22, I don't think that I was the target audience for IATHEA, but regardless, I think people of all ages will enjoy it.
So, basically this book follows Isla Martin who has been in love with ... Read more
Review:Let me start off by saying Rebel Spring was definitely better than Falling Kingdoms but there were still things that annoyed and irritated me about this book.
Plot wise this book was solid for the most part. I love the world in this series, I love the magic, the elementia, and the battle between the lands. I even like that unlike al lot of books like it in this one it's not about stopping a king from invading, that already happened in the first book in less than 100 pages, but now it's about ... Review:A fun follow-up to Uncaged though you definitely need to read it first - I know it is a young adult novel but I'll read anything John Sanford writes and I look forward to the follow-up.
Sanford hasn't sold his credibility for the sake of writing volumes with alternative author - he commonness my respect and loyalty.
Can't wait to read and can't wait for Saturn Run - though I also look forward to another f##king Flowers. Read more
