A List of Cages
A List of Cages

Review:“A List of Cages” is book that bolsters my existing faith in the younger generation. Its message about friendship resonates with me. One of my favorite quotes from the book seems to sum it up: “Hate ricochets, but so does kindness.”

At the heart of Robin Roe’s debut novel lies the relationship of Adam and his younger foster brother Julian. Julian lived in Adam’s home temporarily after the death of Julian’s parents. The two are reunited years later in high school. Despite their differe... Read more

My Sweet Audrina (The Audrina Series)
My Sweet Audrina (The Audrina Series)

Review:My Sweet Audrina is just as demented as I remember it being. Now in a VC Andrews book, that's not a bad thing. There are varying degrees of Andrews dementedness, and this book is pretty low on the scale, all things considered, especially since there's none of the incest Andrews is so famous for. It's kind of the literary version of a soap opera. Poor Audrina is so screwed up in the head. She doesn't know what day it is, how old she is, or why her parents will never love her as much as they did h... Read more

The Upside of Unrequited
The Upside of Unrequited

Review:With twenty-six crushes and zero kisses in her life, Molly Peskin-Suso wonders if she needs to step outside of her comfort zone. Her twin sister, Cassie, is the the totally opposite. Cassie is an extrovert and she can get a girl's number super easily. The problem for Molly is finding the right person at the exact right moment which is hard to come by.

Becky Albertalli opens up The Upside of Requited with humor. Molly is introduced and she is very likable from the start to the point where ... Read more

Snow Like Ashes
Snow Like Ashes

Review:I have been hearing so much about this book and the sequel, Ice Like Fire, that I decided to pick it up at the library. I am soooooooo glad that I did.

The story follows, Meira, a Winterian refugee who was one of the few that escaped the King of Spring’s attack. Meira is an orphan and has been raised by William. Meira has called him “Sir” since the time she made the mistake of calling him father.

I liked the fiercely headstrong Meira we got to know as the book progressed. She is ce... Read more

The Lying Game
The Lying Game

Review:If you read Pretty Little Liars i assure you this the book for you it has everything that characterizes a Sara Shepard book mystery ( who killed her sister?) ,forbidden romance (Ethan and Emma) and a whole bunch of lies that keeps you on edge from page one to the end. It is also well written and complex, but easy to understand so trust me if you're a fan of Pretty Little Liars then you'll be a fan of the Lying Game. Read more

All Fall Down (Embassy Row, Book 1)
All Fall Down (Embassy Row, Book 1)

Review:I listened to this book vice reading this story which might have skewed my review. I listened to 4 hours of character development before the author started into the plot of trying to figure out who committed the murder. The narrator’s voice was fine, but the fact that Grace was always having fits, breakdowns and silent trances felt like the story was in a loop replaying the drama over an over.

The main character Grace has an attitude that I would not have put up for anything, no matter w... Read more

Hattie Big Sky (Hattie Series)
Hattie Big Sky (Hattie Series)

Review:Hattie Big Sky is purportedly a story about a teen having the courage to leave a safe, if unpleasant, home in Iowa to `prove up' (work) her deceased uncle's claim in Montana; hence, the `Big Sky' of the title. The story sounds simple. It takes courage in 1914 or any time for a young girl of only sixteen years to travel to a completely strange country (read, Montana) many miles from anyone or anything she has ever known in order to work really hard on the land by building fences and plowing an... The Problem with Forever (Harlequin Teen)
The Problem with Forever (Harlequin Teen)

Review:Jennifer L Armentrout writes the best characters with the best stories. But this book raises the bar even for her.

Emotional. This one is emotional and there's no way to not be effected by the lives of two people who grew-up in foster care under the worst of conditions. Two people who experience the same dread and misery but react very differently. One protects and one hides but they do it together and a bond is formed. Though they are separated, that bond stays.

Here's the th... Read more

Forgotten: Book #1 in The Lost Children Trilogy
Forgotten: Book #1 in The Lost Children Trilogy

Review:I really liked this book. I'm picky about character development, grammar and plot consistency - and this book did not disappoint me! I read this on holiday and couldn't put it down. I loved the storyline and intricate details that weaved the characters together and the way the author built up to but left the answers until the end. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this trilogy. Read more

My Brother Sam Is Dead (Scholastic Gold)
My Brother Sam Is Dead (Scholastic Gold)

Review:I think the language - based on what my 5th grader is telling me, is a little unnecessary. She is reading it as a school assignment and is a high-level. We're not prudes or uptight by any means, but it almost seems as if this isn't a "historical novel" as much as an "introduction to curse words" in the eyes of the young reader. Maybe if I actually read the book, I would find differently - but the point is that the 5th graders are the audience, and what are they taking away from the experience... Read more
