Review:I enjoyed this story prequel and finished it in a couple hours. It's in interesting start into a world filled with demons and wardens that hunt them. I'm looking forward to reading the series to see where it goes. Read more
Review:This is a fun story with lots of interesting characters and creatures. Share it with a special child or savor it for yourself. The term "fantastical" comes to mind when I think of this story; it is most definitely imaginative and enjoyable. The target audience seems to be children aged 8-11 years, but children of all ages will enjoy traveling through time with Becky, Joe, and Uncle Percy. You won't regret the time invested reading this book. Read more
Review:Very good book. I loved the idea of having mental powers, and choosing your own path. This book is about a boy named Benjamin, who has special powers and is THE ONE. I don't want to give the end away, but I want to say this is a really good book! Read more
Review:This is kid friendly! We started this as a continuation of Harry Potter / Percy Jackson. I have an advanced reader, so sometimes it's hard to get something that engages but still appropriate. This series works...and still developed enough that I enjoy it as well. Read more
Review:I enjoy the fantastic settings, which are written in such a way as to create vivid pictures of place. The conflicts raise interesting questions about contemporary issues. Basically the adventures the characters have interest me. It is a real page Turner. Read more
Review:Loved these books especially since they were a free purchase on Amazon. The books kept me going and were a great read all the way until the end where the ending was a tad disappointing. There is a second set but they unfortunately go over a different character than the main one within this story line. Read more
Review:Ptolemy's Gate was a great conclusion to the trilogy. Bartimaeus is aging which gives insite to his more "human" side. The first part was a bit wordy but necessary to understand the rest of the story. This book wasn't nearly as dark as the first two which I don't consider appropriate for children under 15. Read more
Review:Enjoyable & easy read. Its detailed account of people & happenings kept me interested. The characters are relatable and I would recommend to my grandchildren. It's suspenseful without gruesome violence not foul language. Read more
Review:After reading the graphic novel "The Storm in the Barn," a horror story set during the Dust Bowl days in the American Midwest, someone recommended this book to me. It had a similar premise -- a horror story set during the Dust Bowl, this time in Canada -- but I figured it would be different enough to give a new take on the concept. And it certainly is a creative and chilling book, bringing a strong dose of Lovecraft-inspired terror to an unlikely era and place... but the writing style feels a ... Read more
Review:It is after the events told in the HIS DARK MATERIALS trilogy. Lyra Belacqua (now Lyra Silvertongue) is back in the Oxford of her world -- the one with Jordan College and a zeppelin station and personal daemons.
While relaxing on the roof of Jordan College she espies a large flock of birds aggressively pursuing a lone bird who appears to be a witch's daemon. (You may recall that witches' daemons could be separated from their people and perform errands many thousands of miles away.) Lyra a... Read more
