The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare - Signet Classic)

Review:Arrived in good condition. Exactly what I needed. However, this copy is basically the script: it contains no footnotes, translations, or introductions whatsoever. If you want these additions, you will need a different version. Read more

Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe
Christmas at the Comfort Food Cafe

Review:Predictable story, too simple plot, lots of clichés, repeated use of exaggerated and dramatic metaphors instead of a more thorough study of characters, one dimensional characters. Still ok if you're looking for a very light read Read more

The Fever Tree
The Fever Tree

Review:I loved the author's description of South Africa in the early part of the century. She had certainly done her research there. The characters are somewhat endearing, but unfortunately, I found the author's character development shallow. The story line was a little too predictable. I would say it was an easy read, but not especially memorable. Read more

The Testament of Mary: A Novel
The Testament of Mary: A Novel

Review:Although very well written with good flow once you got to page 11 and figured out what was going on, it really didn't provide me with enlightened info re her life as the mother of Jesus. It sort of painted a picture of Jesus as arrogant and not interested in family which is not the way I have come to know Him through various Bible studies over the years. This was a book club reading suggestion so I will be very interested in how the discussion goes when we meet later this month. Read more

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Other Poems

Review:Short sweet and to the point. Different to the length found in other epics but still an epic nonetheless. If you want a brief overview of the story listen to iron maidens song by the same name, though be prepared to listen for around 17 minutes. Read more

Coldheart Canyon: A Hollywood Ghost Story
Coldheart Canyon: A Hollywood Ghost Story

Review:My best friend, April told me about this book "Marisa, you're got to read this, this will nock your socks off". I love the Kayta. Kayta is a sexy film star from the 1920's. Kayta and her agent are in Europe and the by some stuff that is haunted by a Count. Years later actor, Todd stays in the old house that Kayta used to live when she was alive.
I don't want to wirte anymore, The reader has to read the book because its so sexy. It makes "50 Shades of Gray" look the bible. I did enjoy readi... Read more

King Lear (Modern Library Classics)
King Lear (Modern Library Classics)

Review:First off, King Lear has always been my favorite play, followed closely by Othello and After The Fall. I like comic books, but I'm skeptical of the "Illustrated Classics" approach. So I was a bit leery buying this (pun unintended, but not bad).

It's fantastic. The art is lovely and has a timeless, surreal quality. The stylizations only enhance it. Especially watch the Fool: he's always been one of the best of Shakespeare's characters, and the capering, size-changing, conjuring presence Ia... Read more

The Well of Lost Plots: A Thursday Next Novel
The Well of Lost Plots: A Thursday Next Novel

Review:Jasper Fforde has tickled me again. I just love his sense of humor and the silly, nerdy, bookish stuff he writes into all his novels. I think this is my favorite of the series (though I haven't yet read Something Rotten, of course). Mr. Fforde must have had the time of his life writing this book.

My favorite part? I cracked up during the discussion about the 'had had' and 'that that' problem! Surely Mr. Fforde put a lot of effort into writing that dialogue and making sure it came out maki... Read more

The Woman Who Died a Lot: A Thursday Next Novel

Review:Somehow Jasper Fforde manages to continue to innovate without the stories seeming contrived. He has created a fantastical world that I would love to visit. No spoilers here, you really should read Thursday's continuing story. Read more
