The Mars Room: A Novel
The Mars Room: A Novel

Review:This novel is the real thing. I've recommended it to many formerly incarcerated women who I work with and they all agree. It's important and brilliant, a page-turner. Too bad it's not out in paperback yet, so I can't send it to prisoners. Read more

Rooms: a novel
Rooms: a novel

Review:Rooms: A Novel uses a death and a funeral to bring together a small family, full of of mistrust and disappointment, and a haunted house. The ghosts in the house are vague, tied to the house and each other for reasons that are not quite clear. The people--a mother, her adult daughter, adolescent son, and young granddaughter, are full of longing for things they can't have, things they are missing, and things they've unknowingly lost.

The four have come home to an isolated house that they ... Read more

The Whispering Room: A Jane Hawk Novel
The Whispering Room: A Jane Hawk Novel

Review:I'm a bit confused. But let me start with I think this is definitely better than Ashley Bell, back to the" Koontz" I love reading. I was intrigued from the beginning, the storyline drawing me in... but..... the chapter beginnings were not always easy flowing. Some drag on sentences, although I'm not an English teacher.... but I can get past all of this to a 4 star review but then the book ended, without closure... I'm left completely perplexed, what happened after this? I'm left shaking my head... Read more

Review:Will the real Hattie Hoffman please stand up!!

Hattie, multifaceted and complex character who really is a master manipulator whose skills match her acting ability. A senior in high school, she's determined to blow town after she graduates. Her problem is she is killed before she gets that chance.

The story is masterfully told via three characters, Del town sheriff and friend of Hattie's parents, Peter the English professor who finds himself in a place he never thought he'd be and H... Read more

Red Storm Rising: A Suspense Thriller
Red Storm Rising: A Suspense Thriller

Review:Although I love the Jack Ryan series from Clancy, this is probably the weakest novel in my opinion. It moves well and the story is at least plausible, like all his spy thrillers but its seems bogged down in political machinations and personal issues more than some of his other novels. Still worth the read, and a great component to Jack Ryan as a character, but its one that i'm always tempted to skip, when i'm reading the series again. Read more

HEX
HEX

Review:On the whole, I did enjoy this story...until the ending. I expected so much more since I thought the story was pretty spooky and was building to an ending that would make me want to have a night light on for awhile. I really was disappointed that more wasn't done with the older son - and having the witch end up as maybe a decent sort? Yeah, humanity made their own horror, but come on, that was soooo predictable!
But I have added the author's name to watch for more of his writings, so liked... Read more

The Familiar, Volume 1: One Rainy Day in May

Review:This book is absolutely amazing. It is unlike anything I have very read before in the best way possible. It lures you in with a slow start. The format takes a bit to get used to, but by the end of the book The Familiar has grabbed you and it won't let go. Read more

Insomnia
Insomnia

Review:Insomnia was a good read. King is a masterful storyteller; the narrative voice, the compelling main characters and the absolutely unstoppable plot are all trademark King features. Still, compared to the other King that I have read, I would rank it somewhere in the middle.
The recent King novels that I read before this were Rage, The Long Walk, The Running Man and Bag of Bones. Insomnia is very obviously a 1990's King; he writes with the kind of dry, New England wit that has come to distinguis... Read more
