Multicultural Stories
Review:I really enjoy reading the book. It brought back a lot of memories of all the good and bad time growing up. The author is very good at putting her emotion into words that we can all relate to.
This is a must for your book collection. Read more
Review:I bought this for Valentines day for my 1st grader and 1 day later she said "mama on already on the 9th chapter."I bought this book because my daughter is on a 5 th grade reading level so I'm really skeptical about the books I buy her because of maturity. This title spoke for it self so I purchased it especailly since the price was right. I usually try to read the books I buy her before I give them to her,so I can give her a test when she is done and so I know what is in the book to have a convo ... Read more
Review:I read Becoming Naomi Leon. It's about a girl who lives with her grandmother and her brother Owen. Every time Naomi goes to school, some of the boys there make fun of her name. Naomi thinks she should switch her name even though she knows it's her grandmother's name.
Naomi's grandmother is also giving her the pep talk about how she's named after her grandmother. I think the two conflicts in this story is when kids were making fun of Naomi's name and when her grandmother was talking about ... Read more
Review:A good read! A part of American history that should never be forgotten. Hard to believe that even in the 20th century, the American Indian was still treated as badly as they were and yet were so willing to fight and die for their country. Read more
Review:Bought this book to read to my daughters, ages 6 and soon to be 2. I like the story immensely, as it illustrates to them that not everyone is as economically fortunate as we are, but are still loved and are good people. What I don't like is the author's decision that we need to take all grammar and throw it out the window. It wasn't a problem for me to fix the language on the fly when I was reading it to my girls, but when my 6 year old went to read it on her own, she couldn't figure out the ... Read more

I'm dark my daughter is like carmel colored and black girls need to hearOFTEN that they are something, they are pretty and so is everyone else in their own way but seeing so many blonde girls on tv and on cartoons we need a good story about the beauty of us Read more
Review:A simple dot on a piece of paper turned a child into an inspiration for others. She in turn deploys the same method of inspiration by her art teacher, to encourage a little boy who also thinks he can't draw. The illustrations embody the meaning of the story - simple and on a white piece of paper. This puts the focus on how something small can tun into something bigger. In the story, one dot turned into bigger dots and more artistic mediums. Fantastic, inspirational, creative, and a must-have for... Read more

Review:The story line follows a typical child/family of their everyday life’s ups/downs.
The jacket says it is for MS age children. I’ve been out of the school system for 10 yrs. now.

Review:This book is a portrait of the American West that goes beyond just the stoic cowboys and damsels in distress that most Westerns feature. It takes many of the tropes of Westerns and either subverts them or improves upon them. The pacing is not always the most consistent, but the characters and story is incredibly memorable. It's a story as vibrant as the real West, not the whitewashed Hollywood version. Read more
