Review:There is something particularly gratifying when an American born and raised child of immigrant parents adopts as her mission the continuation of the culinary traditions of her family's homeland. Debbie Matenopoulos' "It's All Greek to Me" is an outstanding manifestation of such an effort.
Having grown up in Chicago, where I was fortunate to have easy access to the myriad restaurants in the city's Greek Town, I have long been partial to Greek food. It was the driver behind more than one tr... Read more
Review:If you love profuse, overly flowery prose you'll love this book. I found it incredibly tedious and had to scan most of the book to get through it. The story really has no point. Incredibly boring. And a number of mis-translations. The one that amused me most was when she describes a person in the waiting room with "healthy teeth and shining hair and firm perinea". Not sure how she could tell the firm perinea (area in front of the anus). And described the couple "had festered on the tiles, hard e... Read more
Review:I was excited about this cookbook and ordered. While the book is made very well and the printing and page quality is just as good, I thought there would be more legit recipes but it's all gimmicky crap most novices wouldn't know what to do with. Read more
Review:although the illustrations were powerful and well done, I would have preferred old illustrations by the likes of Arthur Rackham, which resonate with my childhood memory of the tales. Wonderful to have, even with the American spelling. Read more
Review:The characters were well developed and believable. As the story moved back and forth in time each character's actions, thoughts and feelings became clearer and the story took shape. The fact that Alice was given a voice helped to clarify the relationships among the characters building up to the unexpected ending. Read more
Review:This book was very intriguing and extremely well written. I've never read anything by Schlink or even heard of him for that matter but I think I would read some of his other work now. I found myself not able to put the book down. It is a quick read and definitely worth reading. I'd like to see how the book was portrayed on film. I highly recommend this book. Read more

The story o... Read more
Review:Like some other readers with a knowledge of 19th century history, I found this book to be full of errors. There are also errors in the references to the plots and characters of the handful of 19th century novels to which the author refers.
It was also very repetitive; sometimes the same piece of information is repeated three times in as many pages.
The book needed to be edited and fact-checked. Read more
