Writing, Research & Publishing Guides
Review:This useful book is an indespensible compliment to the "Master & Commander" series. So many places like "Isle de France" are not found on modern maps, and details of 1805 Port Mahon in Minorca are necessary to understand the actions there which are thinly disguised accounts of actual events.
I also recommend "Harbors and High Seas" by this author and "Lobscouse and Spotted Dog" by Anne Chotzinoff Grossman and Lisa Grossman Thomas. Aubry eats as much as fights. Now you can imagine (an... Read more
Review:There is more to writing by dictation than just learning Dragon Naturally Speaking (or some other software package). And figuring it all out can just seem too intimidating. Thankfully, Monica Leonelle has written this brief guide that will get you up and running quickly. She covers it all, from your software options, to equipment recommendations, along with tips to succeed and pitfalls to avoid, all written in a clear conversational tone. If you want to push your words per hour into the thousand... Read more
Review:As a parent of a child with high functioning autism (aka, Asperger's syndrome), I'm struck by passages in McCarthy's book that seem to be lifted out of descriptions of life written by people with HFA. I would never diagnose someone (I certainly don't have the credentials), but I wonder if the personal insight in this book, plus the feeling of being isolated from others all his life, doesn't suggest to others the possibility that there are many different factors at play here, possibly including A... Review:This was painful to read. Did Berg have to detail every single moment of Perkins existence? Akin to reading boring daily Facebook posts detailing someone's every move. I hope the movie is able to extract the good parts and edit it to something interesting. Read more
Review:Excellent book, easy read as the true stories really let you know what really goes on in media and if it wasn't for the people of Project Veritas we never would know. They should receive as much funding as NPR. Read more
Review:Elmore Leonard has created here, a book that says just what it needs to and no more. It is quirky and amusing, whilst giving the budding writer some really sound advice. You can read it in one sitting or take your time to soak up the esoteric knowledge contained within these definitive pages. A must for all people serious about the writing craft. Read more
Review:Easy to read, but very dated information. Some of the guidance given, for example, regarding email marketing, has been made irrelevant due to laws written after the 2002 publication date (and apparently have not made their way into later editions of the text). Read more
Review:Cameron obviously intends with this book to offer motivation for writers, would-be writers, and, interestingly, everyone else too, since she firmly believes that EVERYONE is a writer at heart and everyone SHOULD write. I don't think everyone should be a writer any more than everyone should be a dog trainer (it has nothing to do with talent, by the way, and everything to do with doing what you LIKE). Once you get past that premise, is her advice for freeing up your writing useful? What she t... Read more
Review:I became interested in this book after reading "I know this much is true" and "She's come undone". I was hesitant to buy it after reading that it was not written by Lamb but after reading some of the reviews I decided to take a chance on it. I finished the book in 2 days. I couldn't put it down.
The stories really are sometimes hard to hear, but it feels like something that needs to be heard. The stories in the book do humanize these writers who are criminals - but they are humans firs... Read more
Review:This book lays out a concise strategy for writing and gives very good advice for creating, structuring, revising and submitting your research paper. Many of the strategies are applicable in other forms of writing as well. Well worth your time and money. Read it at least twice then refer to it often! Read more
