Sam and Dave Dig a Hole (Irma S and James H Black Award for Excellence in Children's Literature (Awards))

Review:Without previewing it first, I read this aloud today to 2nd graders. They were SCREAMING by a few pages in. They could not contain themselves! They absolutely loved it. The book has a great twist that even I did not see coming. We talked about how boring the story would have been if the boys had met their original intent and if the audience had been rewarded with their knee-jerk hopes for the story's resolution. It's a gentle gem of a book that will bring students a lot of amusement and offer te... Read more

Black Beauty
Black Beauty

Review:I'm not a big fan of talking animal books, so maybe my opinion shouldn't count, but I didn't really like it. I understand the message of the book, but it just wasn't for me. It was well written, but I didn't feel emotionally connected to any of the characters. Read more

Hack Mealtimes and Help Grownups Understand Why You Do the Things You Do
Hack Mealtimes and Help Grownups Understand Why You Do the Things You Do

Review:My elementary school age daughters love this book. They are able to do most of the activities with no or minimal help, except for buying a few simple supplies and ingredients, although we have most of what is needed lying around the house. The great part of this book is how independent and capable my girls are when doing the exercises, although in their zeal they can use up the last of certain products - such as my teen girls' hair conditioner (they weren't happy!), so you might want to make som... Winnie the Pooh's Giant Lift the-Flap
Winnie the Pooh's Giant Lift the-Flap

Review:My 3-yr-old granddaughter loves this book. The only down side is that she's played with the flaps so many times that two of them have torn off, and they're not so easily taped back on. But that doesn't bother her at all, so I have no complaints. :)

The illustrations are very close to the originals and not like those counterfeit Disney imitations, which is a plus. Read more

Combat Handbook (Updated Edition) - An Official Mojang Book
Combat Handbook (Updated Edition) - An Official Mojang Book

Review:I prefer this book for inexperienced people. To begin with, the book tells you how to upgrade tools, weapons and armor with an anvil which you need to stay safe from the mobs. Next, the book also tells you what to do or what not to do when your fighting mobs in the game. Lastly, it also tells you the things to keep in your inventory for protection. All in all, I recommend this book for inexperienced people ages 8 and up. Read more

Why Does the Creeper Fart When He Should Explode? (Volume 1)
Why Does the Creeper Fart When He Should Explode? (Volume 1)

Review:Very disappointed.
35 pages. That includes pages with pictures and large font and large spacing. If you were to format this like a real book it would probably be 10-12 pages.
The only positive to this book is that my 9 year old son now believes after reading this book that he can be a published author. ( it may have been written by a 10 year old )
I understand it's just a kids book but come on. Read more

Minecraft Redstone Handbook - Updated Edition
Minecraft Redstone Handbook - Updated Edition

Review:I ordered this for my third grader after her school book fair sold out before she could get a copy. The reading is a bit challenging for her at times, but my understanding is the Redstone building/crafting is one of the more difficult elements to work with. She is able to follow the steps with a bit of help and has enjoyed perusing this book. The binding is of a library quality and the pages are printed on a heavy weight, semi-gloss paper. The overall quality is very good. Read more
