A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West
A True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West

Review:AMERICAN WOLF is a fascinating study of the wolves introduced into Yellowstone.

What was so interesting to me was the recounting of their social structure. How much they were like extended families, with members going in and out of favor. There are sad moments, of course. We are talking about nature. But so many more great moments, like when the author connects the dots and shows how the introduction of wolves was actually good for bears and beavers and certainly flora.

I had a s... Read more

The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge
The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge

Review:This book, in my opinion, focuses too much on the politics involved and not about the actual people involved with the actual design and construction of the bridge. I was expecting more technical details and actual experiences of those with their hands on the bridge. Good reading, otherwise. Read more

The Secret History of the CIA's Spytechs - from Communism to Al-Qaeda
The Secret History of the CIA's Spytechs - from Communism to Al-Qaeda

Review:Spycraft, an important work that must be listen to/read and understood, especially in light of cooling relations with the Russians (once again). Anyone who has lived through the cold war will remember the tensions of the 'doomsday' clock and how it colored our world. As I remembered living through those times I felt there was an under current beyond our perception, struggling for dominance. This book details the struggle and fills in all the things you thought must have been happening. Read more

Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA

Review:A major contribution to the advancement of science!

An outstanding book!

(I received mine via pre-order from Amazon.com in October 2007)

A major contribution to the advancement of science!

This book is a "must study" for anyone who has any interest in space, the space program, NASA, and corporate politics in general.

Corporations exist to retain their secrets. The USA is a corporation, and so is NASA!

In this book, Richard Hoagland and Mike Bara point o... Read more

and the Texture of Reality - The Fabric of the Cosmos
and the Texture of Reality - The Fabric of the Cosmos

Review:With 5 hundred and thirty some pages of text, Greene certainly has a lot to say. Fortunately, most of it is very good - as others has said! Not as much on the Zero Point Field and applications as I had hoped but stayed relatively pretty free of New Age conversations. My only reason for 4 stars is not content but the size of the print, especially the notes. Use good light or glasses. Thumbs up. Read more

How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming
How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming

Review:This book illustrates how some of the best features of science and newswriting are used by special interests to undermine good public policy. Science encourages maintaining doubt. This doubt is exploited by small groups of scientists acting from personal views or outright corruption. News media like to cover 2 sides of a story, but often don't adequately explain that one of the sides is really an outlier. Read more

Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era
Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era

Review:Very interesting perspective and well written. I've read Kurzweil and was always a little concerned with his seemingly over optimistic perspective regarding AI. Barrat does a great job explaining the dangers of AI both technologically and philosophically. His narrative is also much easier to read than other books on the subject.
The only thing I would critique is that, while his views are rationally supported and thorough, I would have liked to have seen more specific ideas about what can be ... Read more

Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega, Book 1)
Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega, Book 1)

Review:Good start to the Alpha and Omega series of books. I'm glad I read the prequel before this novel, it gives more insight into how Anna became a wolf and how she was hurt by her first pack.
Cry Wolf explores Anna and Charles' relationship. This is not a "she falls in love and all her past hurts are forgotten" type of book. Anna particularly has problems that anyone with a traumatic past would have with new intimacy, especially since it is their Wolves who have chosen each other before their hum... Read more
