The Astounding Interconnectedness of the Universe
The Astounding Interconnectedness of the Universe

Review:Professor Randall takes us on a journey from the outermost reaches of the universe to the unseen players of conventional and dark matter. It is a wonderfully layered work that peers into not only the elemental factors that make up our entire universe, but also the minds of the leading scientists covering a diversity of fields that helped to foster Professor Randall's work. Although we will continue to watch and see how the dark matter story plays out, this book certainly provides a very provoc... Read more

Crap Taxidermy
Crap Taxidermy

Review:Pretty silly book. Entertaining to those who enjoy actual taxidermy, or who think ugly things are hilarious.

Some of the so-called "crap" taxidermy showcased in this book, however, are actually expertly created works of art intentionally designed to look unusual. The cover of the book, for example, is an art piece created by the world renowned Geza Szollosi, a Hungarian artist who is also known for his inflatable, balloon-like cow faces. The difference between these and actually terrible ... Read more

A Story of Evolution in Our Time - The Beak of the Finch
A Story of Evolution in Our Time - The Beak of the Finch

Review:This is the third book about Darwin and the evolution of the ideas about life's origins that I've read in the last year, and it's a really good complement to other books. It's precise, concise, and relatively easy to follow, given the complexity of the topics that are addressed. The work done by the scientists described in the book is amazing, and the conditions under which they do it are remarkable -- basically camping on an inhospitable island (inhospitable for humans) for months at a time.Read more

Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds - Mind of the Raven
Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds - Mind of the Raven

Review:This guys is some kind of weird freak. Seriously. His social experiments with the birds, his obsession with all the weird little things. Nonetheless, an interesting read. I would take what he says with a grain of salt. He is a little too close to the subject for objectivity.

In his whole discussion of the interaction between Ravens and Wolves, I think he may be seeing what he wants to see more than what is there. I live and work in Yellowstone National Park, and while there may be a... Read more

Biology
Biology

Review:Book as advertised, but seems to be "sprung" - meaning the cover is askew, almost like it has been twisted. It doesn't affect the quality of the book, but makes it seem odd when you handle it. Pages and binding are in good shape. Read more

Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness - The Joy of Living
Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness - The Joy of Living

Review:This is a wonderful offering by a truly wise, young teacher. I found it inspiring, affirming, encouraging and informative. We can be more open to all that presents itself in our everyday lives and find joy moment to moment. This is a great book for everyone and will be of benefit to all who read it. Read more

The Bulletproof Plan to Activate Untapped Brain Energy to Work Smarter and Think Faster-in Just Two Weeks
The Bulletproof Plan to Activate Untapped Brain Energy to Work Smarter and Think Faster-in Just Two Weeks

Review:Another winner from Dave Asprey. While the book definitely gets into the weeds on mitochondria, it is fascinating to learn how important they are to almost every function of the body. I read the Bulletproof Diet a couple of years ago and while there are many similarities it is great to get the latest information and continue to work on a healthier life! Read more

Surprising Science Reveals How We Can Exercise Better
Surprising Science Reveals How We Can Exercise Better

Review:Not having the references is a HUGE problem. In the paperback edition the references to all the studies she mentioned were not cited. I listened to the audiobook and wanted to explore some of the articles she had mentioned for an upcoming presentation on childhood obesity. I bought the paperback and was astonished to discover she didn't have a bibliography. That is an unexcetable practice in healthcare. Completely discredits the book. Such a shame. Read more

Coyote Peterson’s Brave Adventures - Wild Animals in a Wild World
Coyote Peterson’s Brave Adventures - Wild Animals in a Wild World

Review:This book is really well-written, but I bought it for my 9 year old son who loves Coyote Peterson's YouTube channel and it's not something he can easily read alone. It's probably written more toward maybe a 12 year old's capabilities, but again--very well written and great animal adventures. Read more

FREEDOM: The End of the Human Condition
FREEDOM: The End of the Human Condition

Review:I haven't read this book, only its description. But I feel compelled to weigh in with some comments based on that.
First, I take exception to the statement that animals aren't conscious. What an anthropocentric, ignorant load of bull! Of COURSE they are concsious. Any observant person with a brain can see that. In fact, some of them seem a lot more conscious than a lot of humans!.
Secondly, his views on human instinct have no basis in reality.
And finally, the main hypothesis sounds lik... Read more
