Review:If you want to understand why economists can't admit that their models are wrong, why we keep repeating the mistake of trying to solve Greece's debt burden by loaning it more money and imposing austerity measures, why the climate change debate is hardening into two opposed camps, and why most of our attempts to get people to change their minds with "evidence" almost always backfires , then this is a "must read".
If I had the power to make a book compulsory reading this would be on the lis... Read more
Review:I must say I had high expectation for this book. Unfortunately, the 500 pages used to discuss Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment and the underlying psychological principles behind "How Good People Become Evil" could have been condensed into 100-200 pages.
If, like me, you were looking forward to delving deep into the psychological aspects of this hypothesis I fear you may be disappointed. Read more
Review:This book is very interesting and gives a good overview about identifying early childhood trauma.
What I am really missing in this book is the longterm perspective- what is the situation after 10-15 years - with or without treatment. Read more
Review:Very interesting and relevant if you are seeking to understand the narcissist in your life. Buy one for you and other family members since there is always more than one. Easy to read and understand. Will provoke your thoughts. Read more
Review:This is a tightly reasoned, carefully documented case argued by one of the most brilliant intellects of our time. The case for both reason and optimsm about the trajectory of human history could not be more forcefully made. Very highly recommended. Read more
Review:This book is excellent! Trauma is experienced by everyone in relationships, work, community and family. This book is accessable and relatively easy to read. Trauma can be experienced daily, weekly, or once-in-a-lifetime; but it always leaves an impression upon us. This book helps us learn to process these impressi... Read more
Review:Oh my gosh. Really poorly done. Very basic. She suggests a whole diet and then you change it. She refers to another book almost constantly. Suggests you cut out gluten and dairy but doesn't explain why gluten or dairy could affect one's mood. Oh and eat meat, but doesn't show any studies as to why meat would be helpful to mood. Disappointing and now I'm really depressed that I spent the money on this book. Read more
Review:Refreshing to have a science and evidence exploration of drug use vs. abuse (all too often we assume these are synonymous).
The personal perspective that Dr. Hart provides insights to the structural societal issues that are often more responsible for outcomes than the actual drug use or abuse.
A very timely discussion for those of us who have lived through the War On Drugs and seen only dire results. More victims from the Anti-Drug War than from the drugs themselves. Read more
Review:In a world of hyperbolic claims of what people "feel" like would be productive, "Yes!: 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive" is research; just research. No platitudes or theory; just practical and proven ways to positively influence people without manipulation but with solutions to resolve both conscious and unconcious resistance to decision and commitment.
