Review:David Menasche's "The Priority List" is an excellent example of how one person can change the world for the better. While Menasche may no longer be able to teach in the classroom, he still continues to educate people through his words, and most importantly his actions. As you journey through the pages, you realize that he has not only discovered his purpose in life, but that he is willing to stay the course regardless of the challenges he faces. For his students, he gifted them with the ability... Read more
Review:JUST LIKE SOMEONE WITHOUT MENTAL ILLNESS ONLY MORE SO is Mark Vonnegut's follow-up to The Eden Express, his 1975 memoir of a series of psychotic breakdowns in his early 20s.
This is memoir also, of perseverance, told through a collection of thoughts, vignettes, and longer pieces. Vonnegut writes about attending Harvard Medical School (of twenty programs he applied to, his only acceptance); a passage descr... Read more
Review:What determination this man had. So thoughtful at even a very young age. If anything he shows us that even through the worse despair one could not even imagine one can find and make his own light and lift himself up. Amazing life, amazing man. Read more

Review:I was a bit disappointed in this book. Having read and relished The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, I was anxious to read the native narrative of another of the Founding Fathers. Unfortunately, where as Franklin's book combines delightful personal details along with perspectives on the man's government service, Jefferson's autobiography is quite dry and seems to be more an official catalog of committee deliberations than a story about his own life. The rear cover of the books states, in a... Read more
Review:Mediocre biographies are medicore for the same reason that boring histories are boring: they list facts and dates while providing little context that brings the subject to life. But good biographies bring the emotion, the context, the why behind the what, that brings you into intimate contact with a vibrant human life. Ron Power's Mark Twain is of the "good biography" sort. Indeed, it proved far more fascinating and readable than I had reason to suspect it would be when I bought it on a lark. Ma... Read more
Review:This zips along and is funny, funny in many sections (though some of the business sections get a little number heavy). Anybody standing in line to be picked for the next season of the Apprentice should dig into this. It's a fascinating take of The Donald and the writer obviously had lots of access to him and time with him. The chapter on the Apprentice is revealing and hilarious (why are we so swept up in this game?). Very interesting chapters on casinos, celebrity, real estate deals, and Trump'... Read more
Review:The print is small. Very, very small. This has never been a problem before now. I'm sure that book is good because I am veruy familiar with this author. However, the book is quite unreadable. Oh well, it's philosophy. Trying to make to make sense of the universe and life without God is a doomed venture anyway. I just wanted to get an overview. Bertrand Russell is correct, life has no meaning without God. Fortunately, there is one. Now a book explaining why the Creator made this life so challengi... Read more
