Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All the Way
Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All the Way

Review:I had a personal relationship with Jimmy as a result of being the Ex. VP of sales for one of his 23 year sponsors. As a result, I spent considerable time backstage and was allowed an all access credential to the 100 plus concerts I attended. I got to know many of the people closest to Jimmy and with few exceptions (other than Michael Utley, Sunshine Smith and a couple others), none of those folks were even mentioned in this book. As I flipped the pages, I kept waiting for this book to "come toge... Read more

and the World's Greatest Piece of Cheese - A Tale of Love
and the World's Greatest Piece of Cheese - A Tale of Love

Review:Paterniti is an excellent writer who seems to have embarked on a very complicated journey. His descriptions of the small Spanish town of Guzman and its eccentric inhabitants take you there as he sits with you at the center of the action. My only complaint is since the story is so convoluted as it unfolds, it takes a long time to reach the conclusion. Read more

Call the Midwife: Farewell to the East End
Call the Midwife: Farewell to the East End

Review:Although there are still some heartwarming moments, this is probably one book too many. Parts of it feel like a reworking of the previous books. Much of it dwells on broader social issues that, while important, are not really why I read the series. Read more

My Life as a Trainee Nurse in 1950s Yorkshire - Yes Sister
My Life as a Trainee Nurse in 1950s Yorkshire - Yes Sister

Review:I have a relative who went through nurse training in the fifties of the past century. American training was quite a bit different, and the rules were less fierce. Ms. Craig is a good descriptive writer but not of the first rank. As a memoir it was great to be cast back into a different era. It is good enough that I will share it with a friend who is a nurse, educated in the same era but at a Medical College, rather than in a hospital school of nursing. Lawton Posey Read more

William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology - The Map That Changed the World
William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology - The Map That Changed the World

Review:There are three types of people who may enjoy this book. First, those with an interest in 19th century English history who also know about the English countryside (have been to some of the places mentioned in the book). Second, anyone with a serious interest in geography since this is about one of the founding fathers. Third, anyone who is a Simon Winchester fan. I fall in to the last. Winchesters writing style is top notch as usual, but the truth is, this is not a very interesting person (at le... Read more

Dispatches from the Edge
Dispatches from the Edge

Review:I have always admired Anderson Cooper well before I ever realized the family from which he decended I read the book in one day. So much of his personal loss I have myself experienced. That shadow behind the eye....very well put otherwise unexplainable. Read more

True Stories People Never Thought They'd Dare to Share

Review:The Risk! podcast heavily contributed to shaping the person I am today (which I am so grateful for). This book serves as the perfect introduction to the podcast. Highly recommend. Buy for yourself. Give as a gift. Read more

The Plot to Assassinate General George S. Patton (World War II Collection)
The Plot to Assassinate General George S. Patton (World War II Collection)

Review:I have always thought about the secret societies within the United States and rest of the World. This book makes valid my suspicions of assassinations in the United States, back in the sixties. Lone crazed gunman indeed. No conspiracies ever found, witnesses die accidentally and evidence disappears. How naive can anyone be. In my opinion Patton was murdered. Read more

Love Lost to the Long Goodbye of Alzheimer's - Jan's Story
Love Lost to the Long Goodbye of Alzheimer's - Jan's Story

Review:This is very well written. What I particularly like is that he did not eliminate details of just how this disease ravages relationships--including sex. His honesty is admirable.

I don't see how anyone could ever fault him for seeking a new companion--even though Jan is still alive. He has done everything he can and it is obvious that he still loves and respects the person she was--even though her personality has changed drastically. Read more
