The Start of Me and You
The Start of Me and You

Review:The Start of Me and You sounds fantastic, right? Best friends, nerdy boy, and a wounded girl. All those things usually add up to a great read, but unfortunately I didn’t love it like I wanted to.

Paige was a fun main character. She had a very close nit group of friends and that was probably my favorite part of the story. Emery Lord writes beautiful friendships. Both of Lord’s books have left me hoping for a spin off book about one of the side characters. I’ll keep my fingers crossed on th... Read more

My Weird School Daze 12-Book Box Set: Books 1-12

Review:My daughter is reading these books at school and was thrilled to get a full set. Please note that there is a lot of language like "hate" and similar words, so if you are concerned about that I would not buy these books, but for my daughter they were perfect. Read more

Spy Skills for Girls
Spy Skills for Girls

Review:First bad thing about the book: it's too short
Second thing: it doesn't give real spy tips
Third thing: this is like for young kids like 5 or 7
Forth thing: it's a little too simple
Fifth thing: she isn't a pro for spying
Sixth thing: this is only for fun
Seventh thing: she should of been a little more serious
This is only MY opinion so no hating I did nothing wrong but speak MY mind

The Berenstain Bears' New Baby
The Berenstain Bears' New Baby

Review:It's a nice book, but the description seems inaccurate. It isn't really about adjusting to a new baby. It's more along the lines of Brother Bear growing up and needing a big boy bed. Not what I was looking for. Read more

Dancing in the Wings
Dancing in the Wings

Review:I enjoyed the thought of this book because I think Debbie Allen is an inspiration to Black ballerina's. Also I am a huge fan of Kadir Nelson's art. I was not so excited about the writing in this book. I felt as thought the paragraphs were lengthy and it was a bit challenging to follow the story line. I see a few comments on Amazon about the content of the book particularly the name calling, but I think it lends a good cultural element to the book. Growing up in an African-American household (and... Read more

Wemberly Worried
Wemberly Worried

Review:Wemberly Worried is a great book for any student starting a new school year! Also, it's a great fit book for children who worry. Kevin Henkes is a wonderful author for many reasons, and this book is one of his best! First, this book can teach students not to worry about things they can not control. Read more

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse
Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse

Review:...and he said "wow" because that was just about all you could say... I don't get it, didn't like it and there are way too many words in the book for the level of the content / age of the kid targeted. Would not buy again. Read more

Owen (Caldecott Honor Book)
Owen (Caldecott Honor Book)

Review:Owen was wrapped between two pieces of cardboard. Three pierces went through the cardboard and the backside looks as if some vehicle ran over it. Two sides of the of the cardboard was ripped. The spine of the book is broken and a crease goes down the front of the book. I cannot give this book as a gift as I intended. I am very unhappy as this lovely book for was a darling new born Owen. Jessica
Jessica

Review:A student recommended this book and loaned me their copy. Although it is quite long, it is a very easy read. Gives a picture of life in the Australian outback around the beginning of the 20th century, focussing on what professes to be the true story of a particular woman, the Jessica of the title. Her story is a tragic one and Courtenay captures that well. However, a problem here, as with much historical fiction, is that of giving historical characters particularly modern points of view. I Miss You: A First Look at Death
I Miss You: A First Look at Death

Review:These books are never easy, as the situation that surrounds them is filled with hurt and longing. However, they also work wonders and make the complicated concept of loss and death so much easier for children to understand. My daughter lost her father at only 6 months old, so she doesnt remember him. As she is getting older (5 now) she asks more questions and is starting to experience the void. It is hard, but this book makes it easier and more approachable to talk about. Thank you for helping m... Read more
