These books are never easy, as the situation that surrounds them is filled with hurt and longing. However, they also work wonders and make the complicated concept of loss and death so much easier for children to understand. My daughter lost her father at only 6 months old, so she doesnt remember him. As she is getting older (5 now) she asks more questions and is starting to experience the void. It is hard, but this book makes it easier and more approachable to talk about. Thank you for helping me, help my daughter with support, understanding, and comfort.

This book helped my daughter so much. I bought it a few months ago after my daughter's great grandfather passed away. She is only five and did not understand death at all. She thought for Christmas and Thanksgiving her great grandfather would come back from the dead and out of his coffin for the holidays and then go back to his grave when the holidays were over. I was having a lot of trouble getting her to understand that things did not work that way. This book helped explain things in a way she would understand. She still looks at this book quite a bit.

I found this book to be wonderful for helping kids cope with the very sensitive and emotional subject of death. Our six year old has yet to experience a death in the family other than my inlaws dog and he had been asking a lot of questions so I purchased this book. My husband and I were very pleased with the explanations given in the book and I recommended it to several friends already.

I couldn't disagree more with the negative reviewers of this book who refer to it as frightening, too sad or not helpful to young children. To the contrary! I bought this book to help my 4-1/2 year old daughter come to grips with our dying pet, and it did just that. While this book is not aimed at dealing with the death of animals, it offers a clear, simple, sensitive explanation about death and how to cope with it. The writing is straight forward and the illustrations are charming. Highly recommend this book over others dealing with same topic. Grateful to finally find a book without an over-bearing religious slant.

As an aside, if you're looking for books to help a child grieving the loss of a pet, may I also suggest: "Cat Heaven" by Cynthia Rylant and "The Tenth Good Thing About Barney" by Judith Viorst.

Pawpaw was the main care giver to my granddaughter, After he died unexpectedly she started acting up in ways that were not her normal, social butterfly self. So I bought several books on Grief for Children. "I Miss You" by Pat Thomas has been the best book I found so far. She had a good cry with grandma and a good nights sleep after I read it to her.

Pretty good book for small children. We are using for a 3 year old whose grandparent passed away. It raised some questions/confusions with our child that don't really apply to our situation (like when you say things you regret to a person who then dies). But otherwise it's a pretty good conversation starter.

Interrupted my reading this to my daughter before I was even finished with the story, then again at the end of the book. The book was perfect for what I needed it for but the constant asking for "review this book" was not. the store has deterred me from purchasing further books in lieu of buying a hard copy. However; lending library rocks.
