Carpe Jugulum: A Novel of Discworld
Carpe Jugulum: A Novel of Discworld

Review:I've read about a dozen of the Discworld books and this is my least favorite. I had come to expect great books from Terry Pratchett and this one was disappointing. It was OK, but it was lacking much of the humor of the other books. Read more

Going Postal: A Novel of Discworld
Going Postal: A Novel of Discworld

Review:Although I gave "Going Postal" 5 stars, I found myself wishing that Amazon allowed a rating of "6", so much did I enjoy this latest entry in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I will admit that I had found "The Monstrous Regiment" less appealing than many of the earlier volumes, so I approached "Going Postal" with just a little concern. But no worries! This newest book easily ranks with the best of what has come before.

"Going Postal" returns us once again to Ankn-Morpork, but is not ... Read more

Raising Steam (Discworld)
Raising Steam (Discworld)

Review:If this is going to be the last discworld book then I am glad it went out like this. While not the most well written, all the humor is there that you would want and it's just a nice story proper ending for everyone involved. Read more

Hogfather: A Novel of Discworld
Hogfather: A Novel of Discworld

Review:I have now read four Diskworld books and I'm still waiting to see what it is the people love so much about this series. Each book is cute enough, but Mort and also Equal Rites seems almost more like children's books to me (the first two I actually enjoyed more). I know people like to compare Pratchett to Douglas Adams, but really, rather than being a fantasy world Adams, he seems more like an English Piers Anthony. Blasphemy to some, I know, though Anthony has his moments. Read more

The Shepherd's Crown (Tiffany Aching)

Review:A most enjoyable book, sad to know it's the last Sir Terry wrote. As always I find it hard to put the Discworld books down and this was no different. I would have loved to be able follow more of Tiffany Aching Read more

The Wee Free Men (Tiffany Aching)
The Wee Free Men (Tiffany Aching)

Review:Great book. Good pictures. Lousy sticker.

The book came with an Amazon barcode sticker on it, covering up the ISBN barcode. This would've been OK if it were a quality sticker, like Borders uses at retail; but it was a cheap sticker, which has left nasty crud behind. If I ever see one of these stickers on a book I buy from Amazon again, I will return it as defective, and go buy the book at retail. Read more

The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (Discworld)
The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (Discworld)

Review:"Because, you see, you just think for many rats, but you don't think OF them."

For this sentence alone, this book should be required reading for every idiot liberal arts student in the entire world. It's SO obvious, unless you're an Occupisher. When they come for YOUR neighbor, will YOU say anything? Tolkien is the only other comparable writer to Pratchett's books, but Pratchett does it better; it's more real, more human. We should mourn the fact that journalists like Pratchett are ...wel... Read more

Nation
Nation

Review:Terry Pratchett is my favorite author, and Nation is one of his best ever. Though it is billed as a children's story, it speaks to adults as well, and makes us look at how we would react at a time of total upheaval in our life. It is not a Discworld story, but takes place in a world very close to ours. As we celebrate Discworld holidays ( Soul Cake Tuesday, Hogswatch) we now celebrate Mothering Sunday. Read the book to find out! Read more

Witches Abroad (Discworld)
Witches Abroad (Discworld)

Review:I've read this book in print and was really looking forward to having it in my Audio library, BUT I can hardly understand much of the dialog and it's so difficult to make out that it's not fun to listen to.

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed the book when I read it in print. It's just too hard to hear and understand in the audio version. I really wish Audible/Amazon would re-record it. Read more

Small Gods (Discworld)
Small Gods (Discworld)

Review:Having just finished "SMALL GODS", I am somewhat embarrassed. Having been a fan of Mr Pratchett, it's somewhat emabarrassing to be writing a review of one of his books. I mean, even thinking I'm going to tell a reader something they don't already know is like thinking about the smell of the color purple! Either you know it, or you don't!
SMALL GODS is the sort of inside joke rich people share at cocktail parties, sniggering at those who don't get it. They are also the sort of people Vorbis co... Read more
