Review:Read this Book! It truly can change your life!
I just loved the message in this book and I hope many others will get a copy. It's a wonderful thing to realize that our thoughts hold so much power for positive change and that we DO have a choice in what we draw to us and the people in our lives. I think we humans have built-in 'forgetters' that we can alter our attitudes/thoughts/action; I know it was a good reminder for me. Another great thing about this book is that I believe it could be... Read more
Review:I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book. That's not a slight against the author, but I had read many reviews saying the book was only so-so and was lacking in substance and character development. Anyway, I actually very much enjoyed The Alchemyst. I wouldn't say it's in my top 5 or anything, but it makes the list of favorites. I enjoyed all the mythology, although I do think that perhaps there were a few too many myths and legends stuffed in without having too much of a point in bei... Read more
Review:I really enjoyed this storyline. Blending so many of the characters we some way or another grew up with, and making it a wonderful story. I enjoyed Holmes eccentricity as well as the sarcastic humor throughout. Read more
Review:This book irritated me. There were sections I wanted to keep reading to learn the outcome BUT what a dissatisfied ending! To me, the characters were either selfish or in the case of Maria, a big masochist. Come on! Self esteem woman! Short, unexpectedly ridiculous! The alchemist? Excellent- a completely different and satisfying experience. Read more

Review:I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book. After I finally started putting it together it was quite good. Some of the characters names gave me a good chuckle. Such as Wen Ning - which he couldn't seem to do. Then Utterly - (useless) which I really liked pulling him out of the fire, and Dypsvick - which sounded a lot like "dipstick" who seemed to have a way of coming out on top. All in all I thought this book was a fun read especially after I started giving the characters ""sounds like" n... Read more
Review:Easy to see why this is a classic - Octavia Butler creates a world (dystopian, if you consider the self-destruction of humanity a bad thing), and writes an engaging story. The characters (many of them alien) are a bit flat and, among the humans, stereotypical or hard to relate to, but this is to be expected in a novel so ambitious in terms of its philosophical questions, e.g., "what is human? what is alien? what values define us? what values threaten to destroy us?". The first part of a trilogy. Read more
Review:Octavia Butler was a literary genius! The way she talked about heavy issues using characters that did not attack any group of people was refreshing and brought the message home without guilt or accusation. Read more
Review:This was an interesting read. Not as captivating as her other novels, specifically, Lilith's Brood, and perhaps a bit redundant after reading that book...but otherwise I never regret reading Octavia Butler. I will use this format to suggest reading Lilith's Brood. It is one of my favorite series of all time. Her incredible imagery and nuanced writing about Ooloi and surviving humans is absolutely breathtaking. I think I may have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't read that one first. It is a 10\...
