Lilith's Brood
Lilith's Brood

Review:This is the second time I re-read Lilith's Brood. Loved it many years ago and thought I would love to re-read it again to see what I might have missed. I am so glad I did, it is just as great as the first time. Read more

An unforgettable sci-fi novel from the multi-award-winning author
An unforgettable sci-fi novel from the multi-award-winning author

Review:After reading the first book I was interested in what the second would have to offer. I thought I was set up to que for more information but ended up purchasing the book instead. It was all right but nothing to get excited about. I will not continue on to the third. Read more

Parable of the Sower (Earthseed)
Parable of the Sower (Earthseed)

Review:Depressing! An interesting portrayal, but thank goodness, not that realistic. This is pure dystopian that is weighed down with abject hopelessness. I prefer more realistic speculative-type fiction. Anyway, I'm glad I sampled Ms. Butler's work, but I'm not interested in pursuing anything else of hers. Read more

Parable of the Talents (Earthseed)
Parable of the Talents (Earthseed)

Review:The book is set in the post-SHTF world, action taking place in the Pacific Northwest/Northern California. It describes United States in a such a way that Germany leading up to the Second World War comes to mind. Violence, poverty, unemployment, inflation and a general sense of despair pervades the world of this book. Simple existence and the sense of humanity is not taken for granted, as characters in this book are forced to fight for their place under the sun.

Protagonist of this novel i... Read more

Wild Seed
Wild Seed

Review:Unpredictable and provocative, this is a look at the intersection of gender, race, and power across time and continents. Like life, this novel is neither a dystopia nor a utopia as it explores questions of what it means to be human in a world of extraordinary possibilities. Read more

Purple Hibiscus: A Novel
Purple Hibiscus: A Novel

Review:being the first time ever reading a book in the setting of Nigeria, by a Nigerian author, i am very impressed by the strong ,beautifully written pages. The book really gives you a sense of what it's like being in a business mans house hold in Nigeria in the 1970s. it also sets the scene for a very abusive father and a family that is silent. this book provides many tense moments, as well as very joyous moments that make you smile. This book is very good at covering both ends of the spectrum, and ... Read more

Regulation 19 (Deadlock Trilogy)
Regulation 19 (Deadlock Trilogy)

Review:PT does a wonderful job with his first book. Easy to read, moves along fast, movie like at times, a bit of wodunit, a lot of mystery and suspense, surprising twists and turns, strong characters both men and women, and cliffhangers.

A great start to what may turn out to be a fun series. My kudos to PT for writing a fantastic book. Great cover too.

PT has also recorded this process of writing this book over on youtube. Check it out: [...]

A Nichelle Clarke Crime Thriller - Front Page Fatality

Review:I enjoyed this novel on two levels; first - Nichelle is realistic, feisty and loves her bargain designer shoes, and second, I live in Richmond and enjoyed guessing all of the locations around town. Definitely looking forward to future installments in this series. Read more

In the Lake of the Woods
In the Lake of the Woods

Review:Apparently I'm the only one that thought "The Things They Carried" by this author was ridiculous. Well, because I bought "In the Lake of the Woods" at the same time, I had to read it. I was sometimes just as confused by this book as the previous one. There is no doubt Tim O'Brien is a talented writer, but he is so far "out there" I don't enjoy his writing. This book focuses on the atrocities at My Lai and the main character's participation in them. I believe my Viet Nam Marine Corps husband... Read more
