Review:This series started out great. I was really hooked on the first book. This one, the author describes life on the ships of the US Navy. More than half the book is spent on mundane day to day details of helicopter flying, ship maneuvers ! The space could have been used to describe the Chinese war efforts rather than page filler. Review:This book is the perfect blend of fiction based on a very-real factual setting for the Vietnam War and a form of 'magic realism' akin to Gabriel Garcia Marquez to tell a powerful story and make a powerful condemnation of the war. Review:I almost dismissed this book but i kept going. I kept trying to read it and somewhere around halfway things got interesting. I mean interesting enough for me to put off dinner and finish reading. I predict that while this book felt bogged down in so much information and details that the second book is going to blow minds.
