In the First Circle
In the First Circle

Review:This story covers one "ordinary" day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, charged with treason by Stalin during WWII and sentenced to 10 yr. in a Siberian concentration camp, and is not very unlike the experience of the author.
The book is heralded as being the first in the Soviet Union to expose the widespread imprisonment of the Russian people during Stalin's reign that were arrested, often for nothing greater than a careless remark about Stalin. Almost every Russian family was said to have som... Read more

Fever 1793
Fever 1793

Review:The year is 1793, the capital is Philadelphia, and the country is in its infancy. Mattie helps her mother around the house, and in their coffee house, which is the family business. Suddenly, people begin falling ill, and before long an epidemic of the yellow fever has hit the city. Chaos ensues as Mattie is forced to flee with her grandfather. Mattie struggles to stay alive, in the hopes of being reunited with her mother.

Once again, I am enchanted by a fantastic piece of young adult ... Read more

All We Ever Wanted: A Novel
All We Ever Wanted: A Novel

Review:Beautifully written, this is women’s fiction at its best. Ms. Griffin weaves a story of wealth and privilege, and how it can affect so many lives. The story takes place in Nashville where one family is surrounded by wealth and all its trappings, and one family lives simply. They are brought together when their teenage children become involved with each other. Although mostly told from Nina’s perspective as the wife and mother of the privileged, she did not grow up with money and does not lik... Read more

Review:Choosing to read this book had to do with my fascination with events that transpired in mid-19th century China (I recently authored one such book myself). As a man of yang, I had to overcome (embrace?) sentiments of yin to make the purchase and read what I expected would appeal mostly to the opposite sex. Surprisingly, it didn't take long for me to get wrapped up in the silky cocoons and intricacies of embroidery (a testimony to the style of writing). Then, new worlds opened. A simple, sensitiv... Review:I finished this a while back, but just haven't been able to find the words to leave an intelligent review. So, I'm not going to try to leave an in-depth one. If you're a child of the eighties, or maybe even slightly later, you probably have seen the animated production of this at least once. Even so, I think you'll find taking the time to listen to or read this story to be time well-spent. It's a wonderfully lyrical, magical story. I really enjoyed the author's narration on the unabridged a... Read more

Review:TRIGGER WARNING:Graphic Bullying

Predictable
This story was nothing unique, in my opinion. I found much of the plotline to be predictable and common for this type of story and the things the main character, Jude, did were very typical for that of a young female protagonist in this scenario. There were obvious items that were designed to be ‘plot twists,’ but they were really easy to pick up on if you were paying any attention.

Main Character
Jude, the main character, was real... Read more

The Raven Series 1: White Raven
The Raven Series 1: White Raven

Review:The world building was great (though I wish the accents were explained) and the plot was intriguing and original. I'm only taking two points off because the constant one liners and vulgar exclamations felt forced and tired after the second chapter or so, and also there were a ton of mistakes. Misspellings, wrong words (rouse instead of ruse???). I don't know if Weil has no editor or if the editor is horrible...but I hope this issue gets fixed before she publishes the sequel. Read more

Renegades
Renegades

Review:I am absolutely in love with the book and wish that I didn't have to wait another year to find out what happens. Unlike Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles series, I feel that Renegades is not a series that is as universal a read. The Lunar Chronicles effortlessly blends science fiction with a fairytale retelling and I feel can draw people in even if they don't normally read either of those two. Renegades on the other hand is definitely a superhero story, with fantastic characters and an intriguing... Read more

Review:Don't skip this story because of my 3 stars I gave. This Devlin & Natalie's story is so worth of your time. You gonna spend it in an amazing rock world, created by Terri. Which she always rock!

The story start's with how happy Nat & Dev is in their relationship. Which slowly becomes something special. They enjoy just being together. But one night everything shatters.
