A Gripping Psychological Thriller - Red Rain
A Gripping Psychological Thriller - Red Rain

Review:This book is quite the psychological thriller. It didn't pull me in as early as other books written by David Beers, but once it got going I was hooked. The characters really get in your head. Even though John is seriously disturbed, he still manages to come off as relatable. Does that make me sound like a serial killer?
Generally I like how descriptive David's writing is. He has a way of painting a scene to fully immerse you in the experience or emotion. That being said, I thought the writing... Read more

A Warrior's Path (The Castes and the OutCastes Book 1)

Review:I can offer to the author, this book and it's sequel, is that The Skull Throne has sat unread, in my kindle library, while immersed in Davis Ashura's world of Arisa. I was surprised and delighted by the scope of the story, it's characters, magical system, culture and the many plot twists! The story and characters would not let me put the book down. The viewpoints and insights shared by the various characters added to the depth of the story. This book comes highly recommended. It will surprise... Read more

My Side of the Mountain Trilogy (My Side of the Mountain / On the Far Side of the Mountain / Frightful's Mountain)

Review:I read this book over the summer for our summer reading project. The book is about Sam Gribley who runs away to the mountains. He learns to make a fire, what to eat and how to take care of himself. He makes new friends: Bando, Frightful, the Baron Weasel. I would recommend this book for everyone as it is easy to read, full of adventure, full of survival skills and nature. I like stories about animals and nature.

Upon A Pale Horse
Upon A Pale Horse

Review:I love medical thrillers. The premise of this book is so troubling, especially since we have such little belief in our government and the media in all its forms. I was a student nurse back in 1977. As part of my clinical training in neuro, I cared for a person who was dying from a "simian virus". I did a paper on this patient, but the information regarding this diagnosis wasn't there. I thought no more about until now. In 1981, while working as nurse in orthopedic surgery, I cared for many... The Lead Cloak (The Lattice Trilogy Book 1)
The Lead Cloak (The Lattice Trilogy Book 1)

Review:Somehow this just annoyed me like no other book. I couldn’t read it, finding the plot, dialogue, and sports-rap impossible. This type of sci fi just can’t hold a candle to what existed previously in the genre—the old time Stuff. This new breed was awful for me.

The author needs to edit, cut, tighten, explain, and loose as much of the dumb sappy love crappola and get down to business.

Also, this is like the 4th sci-fi book in a row with a character name “Ellie.” What’s the deal with... Read more

a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer (Bantam Spectra Book)
a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer (Bantam Spectra Book)

Review:Normally I am not a fan of the Cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction. I find it pretentious and overly cryptic, not to mention gloomy. While Neal Stephenson's "Diamond Age" does tend to these qualities, the fun and immersion in the world he's created compensates for any faults of the genre. Compared to Neuromancer, for example, the prose is very clear and, although violent and quite dystopic, the book is still a rousing adventure and a fun read.

Young Nell's home life is awful. Her mo... Read more

A Place of Greater Safety: A Novel
A Place of Greater Safety: A Novel

Review:This rating is not enought for this marvelous novel.
The theme was extremely interesting and even though I'm familiar with the French Revolution, I had never read so much about the people involved in the revolution, such as Robespierre, Marat, Desmoulins, etc.
Couldn't put it down and was sorry when it ended. Read more
