The Runes of the Earth (The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
The Runes of the Earth (The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant

Review:Did any 5 star reviewers actually attempt to read this masterpiece of boredom before reviewing it? It is horrible. Trash. I really enjoyed Donaldson's earlier work but I actually think he's running an experiment on his fans; "How cruddy of a book can I write and still have my fans give me two big thumbs up?" I couldn't even finish it and I really tried. Seriously. It was painful. The only thing that kept me awake while reading it was having to stop and look up all the bloated words he chos... Read more

The Wounded Land (The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
The Wounded Land (The Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant

Review:This book is incredibly good, though as yet it doesn't make the sheer magic of the first series by devaluing Covenant's relationship with the Land to the point of a mere footnote. I also take issue with a previous reviewer's asinine declaration that this book is disappointing because of the end of the last book. Read more

The Last Dark (Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)
The Last Dark (Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant)

Review:Nothing happens in this last book that hasn't already happened in another prior book, and it is lifelessly re-iterated here. I was deeply disappointed to realize that one of the most respected and well loved fantasy series I know of could just end so... limply. The tedious action sequences at the beginning of the book have all been seen before in this series, and they have much more life there. This queues into yet another annoying 'once again we march to Mount Thunder' road trip, but with th... Read more

The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant - Fatal Revenant

Review:Some good reviews are already out there and I dont want to spoil the book or the ending for those that havent read it yet. But if you havent bought this book. BUY IT NOW! For those that read the First Chronicles and remember how good 'The Illearth War' was.. Fatal Revenant could easily eclipse that! Its a incredible ride and easily competes with anything that Donaldson has ever written! So what are you sitting here reading this for? GO BUY IT NOW! Read more

Lord Foul's Bane (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever
Lord Foul's Bane (The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever

Review:This double trilogy is quite famous, and for good reason. The six books in order are "Lord Foul's Bane", "The Illearth War", "The Power that Preserves", "Wounded Land", "One Tree", "White Gold Wielder".

Not everyone is a fan of the books though, so beware. The reason for this is an irritating feature, (at least in my opinion), of the main character, Thomas Covenant. Basically he denies the reality of his whole experience through most of the first three books. I mean really... Who can... Read more

Out of the Spirit of Music (Penguin Classics) - The Birth of Tragedy

Review:Nietszche:Beyond Good and Evil, reviewed by [email protected] In the early chapters, Nietzsche in effect wipes the slate clean, showing how previous philosophers and moralities were in their grasp inadequate. There is a "definite fundamental scheme of possible philosophies"(Aphorism 20), as there is of possible moralities(260), and particular philosphers and moralists merely fill in their respective places on these spectrums. Nietzsche offers a comprehensive critique of all such systems. T... Read more

Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Review:I am not a student of philosophy and this is my first book to read by the author. Naturally, I didnt find the book an easy read, but I can't blame the author since Im on unfamiliar territory. However, I really enjoyed reading the book and its amazing how many phrases are worth memorizing. The book is very original and very intelligent. From what I read Nietzsche is against organised religion, so I thought it was quite strange that he chose a Prophet to deliver this thoughts to us. Read more

The Portable Nietzsche (Portable Library)
The Portable Nietzsche (Portable Library)

Review:"GOD IS DEAD" These words are perhaphs the most famous and most misunderstood words uttered by any modern philosopher. Friedrich Nietzsche is one of the most overlooked and underestimated philosophers in recent memory. He embodies the great ideas of Kierkegaard and Schopenhauer who proceeded him in the founding of the school of existentialism. The difference between them and Nietzsche? Nietzsche can write, his prose and poetry are beautifully written and an excellent alternative to the drab and ... Read more
