Review:Come on people the book is incredible. it leaves just enough to your imagination to captivate you and make it hard to stop reading. the storyline is great, twists and turns many. albeit predictable sometimes but not always. He's constructed a written world in which the characters of the story are not the only players - the world goes on outside the focus of the story and you see it happening as you go along. certain people that enter and leave the story before you realize they were probably... Review:Found mysef getting frustrated with the pace and content of the story, but then again I watched the tv show first and the way the relationships are working out with the main characters is really getting to me. Hoping to finish, but I've already started 3 books since beginning this one and not looking forward to picking it back up. Read more
Review:When I first read The Elfstones of Shannara,I was unprepared for what i would feel while reading it. Terry Brooks has managed in this book to convey the feelings of each character to the reader in such a way that they feel them themselves. If you haven't read the book, it's about a tree called the Ellcrys that protects the world from demons that have the power to destroy it. The tree, after thousands of years of life, is dying, and unleashing the demons upon the Elves who created it. The only ho... Read more
Review:I really did like this book, it was different to the other Shannara books as it had more conversing with other characters. I could picture the scenes very clearly and easily in my mind. One thing I didn't really like in this book was that some of the characters that were involved in the first half of the book, in the second half were neglected, when I really wanted to know what they were doing/thinking. But then again there is other books to come out so maybe it will have more info on them la... Read more
Review:I'm just another reader that watched the movie (loved it!) and had to have more. I read a couple reviews and delved in. It was a neat story, just for the record, I actually liked the movie more - which is rare for me. Read more
Review:Shelby Richmon is an ordinary girl, I would say maybe not even so ordinary – her best friend is very beautiful and popular. But one night something terrible happens – the two girls suffer a car crash which Shelby survives barely scratched, while her best friend Helene ends up in a coma with permanent brain damage. After this, Shelby is thrown into the deepest depression and won’t stop blaming herself for years, as well as destroying herself and letting others do it for her. We follow Shelby thro... Read more
Review:Beautifully and honestly written. I was absolutely captivated by Ann Patchett's writing and definitely plan on reading some of her other earlier works. I bought this after hearing her in an NPR radio interview. Highly recommended! Read more
Review:Unexpected basis for this examination of a family in California; concentration not interrupted by finding incorrect grammar or usage. Characters well-rounded and realistic. Satisfying read, logical if disappointing ending: satisfying in redemption and disappointing in loss.

Review:The author is new to me; a friend recommended I read it. I am still perplexed: are the stories meant to be characters caught "in the moment;" or is there something else going on. I am not sure. It hasn't caught fire with me, yet, but I am willing to give it time. Read more
Review:I read Lucy Grealy's "Autobiography of a Face" and liked it; I was moved by her suffering, as I had endured taunts by my schoolmates about my appearance all throughout my childhood, too. I read Ann Patchett's article about Grealy in New York magazine, and was shocked at how unstable Grealy really was. This book is a longer version of the article, and it is even more shocking in its details of how truly mentally ill Grealy was. But what is really appalling to me is the promoting of this book as a... Read more
