The Eyes of the Dragon: A Novel
The Eyes of the Dragon: A Novel

Review:More of a 3.5.

This is my first Stephen King book. I've bought a lot of his books before (thick ones, with small font sizes!) but I've never gotten around to read them (I'd read the first 50 pages then give up. LOL.) so when a friend of mine forwarded this to me saying a TV series will be produced from it, I thought why not give it a try? Especially since they say that it's a dumbed down version of what he usually writes.

And I liked it, I did, with a few exemptions... The storytel... Read more

Bonfire: A Novel
Bonfire: A Novel

Review:There are any number of actors/celebrities who have their names on novels as "author" whose output ranges from putting their names on works mostly written by others (Gypsy Rose Lee e.g.) to "pretty good for an actor" writing (Gene Hackman);

But the ranks of those whose writing is of a level that they could BE successful writers even if they weren't known elsewhere is, let's face it, sparsely filled: Steve Martin, Jason Segel, certainly, and the best by far, Sterling Hayden (Note: Sam Shep... Read more

A Novel (The Practical Magic Series Book 1) - The Rules of Magic
A Novel (The Practical Magic Series Book 1) - The Rules of Magic

Review:For me, this was just an average book. It is the prequel for Practical Magic, on which the movie by the same name was based. I enjoyed it at the time. It wasn't really a page turner and I probably won't remember it next week. I am not excited to read the next book and will probably just skip it. Read more

2001: a Space Odyssey (Space Odyssey Series)
2001: a Space Odyssey (Space Odyssey Series)

Review:When you consider that most films are derived from books, and this book is the opposite. The book was written after the screenplay for the movie was done. (Any true SCI-FI buff knows that.) This book may be one of Arthur Clarke's best books. It does a great job of fleshing out the characters of the movie, and gives some really great understanding of motivations of the civilization that left the monoliths,

I am proud to have my first edition hard back in my personal library, and I recom... Read more

The Songs of Distant Earth
The Songs of Distant Earth

Review:I can state, after TSODE, that ACC is an excellent writer- well beyond the genre he's best known for. That said, it's easy to see why even hardcore sci fi fans might not be drawn to him in the way they are to the more pulpy Frank Herbert- descendent of the Jules Verne, HG Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs vein, the more accessible Philip K. Dick, or the more stoic Isaac Asimov. In all of his books ACC is more of a visionary than a storyteller. His characters are merely ins to the greater tale that he ... Read more

The Garden of Rama

Review:Beautiful character development, wonderful science fiction, a lasting work. It might be a rehashed story of humanity messing up a fresh start but this one is set amongst a wonderful backdrop with great characters. Read more

The Lorax (Classic Seuss)
The Lorax (Classic Seuss)

Review:This book arrived in perfect time, perfect condition, and perfect content. Everything as it should be. The only issue is a two inch wide one inch tall addition to the cover proclaiming it earth friendly and printed on recycled paper. While I'm all in favor of this project, especially for this book, it's not a sticker, so it cannot be removed. It very much detracts from the classic cover of a wonderful book. Read more

Seuss-isms! A Guide to Life for Those Just Starting Out...and Those Already on Their Way

Review:This book reminds me of an abbreviated "Book of Bartlett's Quotations" my parent's had when I was growing up. Made me want to go out & seek the original.

You'll get tuned into books you never knew existed -- & YES you will seek them out & wind up buying them! Read more

Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go!
Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go!

Review:The book came very quickly and was as stated. While it was short, it was just the right length for a parent to read aloud. The rhythm of the phrasing was 'catchy', and incorporated many of the other stories by this author. I recommend it as a little gift for a pregnant Mom. Read more
