Review:This book arrived on a day I was bed-ridden with a bad cold, and it was just the thing to perk me up. I love flipping through it and leaving it out on my coffee table for friends to enjoy, too. It is several pieces of fun art bound together. Much more fun than an ordinary book of quotes. Read more
Review:I pride myself on completing books. Once I start a novel I complete it, even if I am not a fan. This is the first book I’m putting down. I read the rave reviews, saw it’s a winner of the Pulitzer Prize and was getting ready to love it. But it’s slow and painful. There is no comedy. It’s a novel of a broken man. I’m on page 65 and cannot bring myself to continue. It’s just one long sob story of numerous failed relationships. Too many descriptions and metaphors without enough substance. Maybe ther... Review:This is simply an astonishing piece of literature. It follows the everyday lives of a seventeen-year-old boy, called Clay, and his many acquaintances. Written from Clay's perspective, the novel is set in L.A. over the Christmas period, yet there is little celebration within the book. The novel contains many very powerful insights of the lives of older teenagers with too much money and too much time.
Behind the glitz and glamour of Hollywood producers and film stars lies a world of alcohol... Read more
Review:While a good story it was a bit of a let down from the previous novel.. I don't know if the author intended to resurrect Kate or to let her die. I am glad she chose to let her story continue. I hope the next story gets Kate back to the Park and gives us more Alaska and less generalizations.. Read more
Review:Listen, you aren't here because you stumbled on to a drag queen's book by the grace of Tati. You are here because 1) you think Willam owes you money or 2) you know what to expect. Prepare to read the book front to back, then top to bottom, and better yourself. To suck less. No false advertising here. You might even find aspects of your life where you didn't even know you sucked. So put your pants on, or take them off, and pay the "woman" for her services. Leave it on your coffee table, or just t... Read more
Review:Bookarrived quickly. Condition was ok. Arrived ahead of delivery date, but I have not yet had an opportunity to read it as yet. It was a good price and after reading some of Anny Tyler's other works I wanted to check this one which received some positive reviews. Read more
Review:This was a highly sexual book. I really enjoyed how Violet and Adam met and the automatic connection they had with each other. If you like a lot of sexist a great storyline then this book is for you. And of course you can't have the good without the bad. Violet and Adam had their fair share of bad times. So this is not a totally happy book.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Read more
Review:I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of a man thrown through the grip of religion and love as he tries to 'save' the woman he recently fell in love with so they can be eternally happy in Heaven. I loved the characters, story, ironic and humorous touches, and couldn't help but feel sorrowed to see it end(yes, I wished that another tale could have been started. Very few novels have ever gotten me to want even more after it was all over, more with these characters, more of the humor and story plots t... Read more
Review:This book goes like this (according to me). Super wealthy and successful old man, kept alive by machines, is waiting for an untarnished brain so he can go on living. He already has chosen the surgeon, and he is waiting for the organ which finally comes along when his secretary is brutally murdered (aren't all murders brutal?). He wakes up with the brain of a 95 year old man in a young woman's, body.
Wait a second! Isn't 95 around about the age where dementia sets in? Oh well!
