Review:My friends have recommended this book to me for at least a year now. And since I've had time, I picked it up. I don't read very much, but this is a great book. I love how Donald Miller keeps your attention through stories of his life and adventures he went through. But I also love how real he is about life, and about God and Christianity. I highly recommend this book. I think it is especially appreciated by the younger generation because of his approach to life. It isn't the normal Christian's a... Read more
Review:This story is believable as miracles do still occur in this day and age. I wish the dog could have lived on but his job on this earth was completed and it was his time to go be with God. I truly enjoyed reading this novel and looked forward to diving back into the thick of things! This is definitely a good read and enjoyable and will pull you in....FAST!! Read more
Review:There have been several excellent translations of Dante in the past few years, all worth reading in their own right. But I retain a special affection for John Ciardi's version, as it's the first one I ever read, at the unprepared & overwhelmed age of 15. I knew of its reputation as a major classic & I was ignorant enough to be unfazed by the prospect of reading it.
Well, to say that I was soon in over my head is an understatement! But Ciardi's fine, lyrical translation, as well as... Read more
Review:I purchased 10 books with the intention of gifting them but when I received them, I realized I ordered the wrong book. So the lesson learned is to check the total number of pages in the book before purchasing. However, I am very satisfied with Amazon because my money was credited very quickly. Read more
Review:This book was recommended to me by a spiritual director (Catholic nun) to me, a Protestant minister. Having gone through the Ignatian spiritual exercises via 19th annotation, I found this book a practical guide & help. I've read other books by James Martin and have gained from each. He is a Jesuit, and though he has a spiritual depth & breadth, his words are very down to earth, everyday examples. I highly recommend this book for seekers of spiritual life and those already pract... Read more
Review:Book that lets you walk with a woman facing cancer. Kate Bowler lets you inside her thoughts as she courageously faces the worst with grace. The book would be particularly meaningful for anyone facing the same diagnosis. Read more
Review:Oh my! I keep reading and re-reading sections and pages and chapters. I have yet to make it to the end (because I don't want it to end ?) and I already know this book will be my friend for years to come. Read more
Review:To be honest, when I began reading Brennan Manning's newest (and last) book to review, I was hesitant because it was written with another person. I was afraid the other writer's touch would be too strong and would take away from Manning's sensitive portrayal of humanity's pain. My fear was ungrounded. Greg Garrett is the perfect person to write alongside Manning, and keeps true to the Ragamuffin style.
The Prodigal is the story of a hugely popular pastor of a mega church who falls into ... Read more
Review:Brennan's deep spiritual insight speaks to my skeptical and pragmatic nature. I have a copy many places for myself and refer to it as I would the Bible primarily for hope; but I receive that hope in a more real here and now way. I have also given it as a gift to people I knew would embrace it as I have and they have felt the same about the book's spiritual power, as the "balm of Gilead" Read more
