Review:I first of all would like to say thank you for selling this not so easy to find book (Remember, Be Here Now By Ram Dass.) I purchased two; one for myself and one to give away. It is a great read for anyone. Also, I am very pleased with the service! Read more
Review:Leadership is not something you are born with. Nor something you buy in the local deli. It is a life-long process of ever changing, growing, empowering others. And in the end - the best leaders are those, people around them will say "We did it ourselves." If you are ready to develop yourself into being such a leader - this is the right book for you. But be worn and remember - it will take you years to develop this unique capacity. The good thing, though, is that each and every one of us ha... Read more
Review:I have been a lifelong follower of the Tao and student of the teachings of Lao Tsu and Chuang Tsu. I've read several translations of the Tao Te Ching in both english and Chinese and this is far and away the best translation and interpretation I've had the pleasure to read. One of the most vexing problems for anyone who attempts to explain the ancient teachings of the Tao Te Ching in the west is the barrier of language and culture, and Mr. Lin overcomes this challenge with grace and clarity that ... Review:Dyer's "version" of the Tao Te Ching is terrible. I call it a version because his translations do not match traditional translations, rather, his translations water down the real messages of the Tao. In fact, attempting to reword them goes againsgt the very teaching and value of the Tao. I am not sure what to make of the book, as it is not the Tao, yet also not a self help book. If one is looking to purchase the Tao Te Ching do not purchase this book because it is not even a loose translation. I... Read more
Review:This book is an interesting guide to clearing out one's soul and transforming one's spiritual life. It is well-paced and easy to read without a lot of unexplained jargon. It made good points to illustrate the benefits of the exercises expressed within, and presented a good variety of information that could be understood by anyone, regardless of spiritual background. I would recommend this book to those who are seeking to find their spirituality but don't want to join a traditional religion. Read more
Review:Timeless wisdom
The same conversations that saturate and permeate our media, our lives, our relationships were happening hundreds of years ago. The same human condition. The same questions. A beautiful book. Read more
Review:This book is short as many reviewers point out. However, it is not short on wisdom. In fact, it is loaded with powerful insights, analogies and examples that illustrate universal truths. It also embraces the reality of mystery and paradox. It doesn't try to explain them away and encourages the reader to avoid killing the "alivenss" of the world by putting too many things in boxes (i.e. concepts). Instead, it encourages an attitude of openness, wonder and awe at the miracle of life and seeki... Read more
Review:I've read several translations of Tao Te Ching. This is my least favorite. Ursula LeGuin is one of my favorite authors. I love her stories, so I thought she would bring the same flair to this ancient text. Not in my opinion. I hardly recognize some of my favorite stanzas. I've basically stopped reading it. Read more
Review:The Tao precedes all other sage's messages. Yet they echo these initial teachings. Wayne Dyer does a splendid job of writing essays to help understand the meaning of each of the 81 statements of the Tao. Now I shall meditate each day on a verse to remove my false nature and and become who I really am meant to be. Read more
Review:Dawood's translation was, I believe, the first one that I ever read. As I am not a Muslim, I can't judge very well on matters of interpretation, but on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd say:
Accuracy - 5. Given a choice, Dawood prefers clarity to accuracy. Please understand that translating everything the Quran says, or even a small part of what it says, is impossible.
Poetic Sense - 8. Dawood is really pretty good in letting some of lilt get through.
Depth - 3. It's just not there.
I'd pr... Read more
