A Trucker's Tales of Life on the Road - The Long Haul
A Trucker's Tales of Life on the Road - The Long Haul

Review:Entertaining and insightful look into the world of long haul movers. Equally enjoyable was the author's discussion on CSPAN's Book TV. I have moved numerous times while living in California. I do all the packing as it is a special skill to get it right; then hire a mover for the actual haul. I cannot yet see how or when this manual labor will be supplanted by robots, at most only the haul itself. The ending was fitting for a Joyce or DeLillo, summed up in a mere two words. Read more

and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies
and Prosperity in a Time of Brilliant Technologies

Review:An outstanding and deep analysis of how computer and robotics technology (especially artificial intelligence) is shaping the world we live in but more importantly, are heading toward in the not-so-distant future. Of special note is the explanation of the widening income and wealth gap and how it is driven by advancing technology, a gap that is growing wider and is slowly making its way to center stage in US politics. The book is penetrating in its analysis and enormous in its scope. A must-read ... Read more

Apollo LLRV Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (NASA SP-4108)
Apollo LLRV Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (NASA SP-4108)

Review:Working with Don Mallick for 18 years and following the projects that the pilots of NASA Dryden Flight Research Center made reading this book a must. Having him explain the projects in terms that an accountant could understand, I knew that I would also be able to understand his book, not so technical like he could have written. Read more

Ancient DNA and the New Science of the Human Past
Ancient DNA and the New Science of the Human Past

Review:Okay, I admit it. When it comes to understanding the importance and methodology of genometic research and its influence on discovering the origins of humans and their long journey from then until now, I am a seething mass of ignorance. Human distribution has always fascinated me but being old I have relied almost exclusively on physical (archeology) evidence. The old saying that old dogs cannot learn new tricks is a complete myth and the same hold true that the understanding and acquisition o... Read more

and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans

Review:Interesting and overall well written book about the war between Ford and Ferrari in Formula I, centered around LeMans, including why it happened, what was at stake, with many details about what unfolded over an about 10 year period. I am not a car buff and found this book very interesting. Read more

Learn How to Make Soap at Home with Recipes - and Step-by-Step Instructions

Review:Very easy to read and excellent instructions! Due to time limitations, I can't sit down and devour a book anymore. This book breaks everything up into nice easy sections to read so you feel like not only are you learning something, but you retain it as well. I only wish it had color photo's, but that's alright...there are other books out there that have photo's that I can look at. I am new to soapmaking and found this to be a terrific reference and well worth it to purchase. Read more

Long Way Round: Chasing Shadows Across the World
Long Way Round: Chasing Shadows Across the World

Review:So these guys want to have an adventure. Great idea. Then they decide somebody else should pay for the trip, because god forbid they spend their own money. Then they decide a company should give them bikes to do the trip, because god forbid they use their own bikes. Then they take a support crew...

It has interesting parts about people they meet and such that kept me interested. However, I was lost on the whole "adventure" aspect because everything was laid out for them / paid for / p... Read more
