Review:I found myself annoyed with Mineko about a quarter way through her book and my aggravation with her only increased as I continued to hear more and more from her. This book is an accurate account of what geisha life was like in the 60's for Mineko, but Mineko's resounding ignorance of geisha life in prior times made me feel sorely tempted to fling the book across the room on multiple occasions.
I'm far from an expert of geisha history or customs, however I think I have done enough reading ... Read more
Review:Very well written, candid and thoughtful. An examination of the crisis and events leading up to it, this book gives a unique perspective on the Great Recession from an inside perspective. Strongly recommend to anybody interested in learning more about crisis management or curious about 2008. Read more
Review:Gabrielle story felt real and honest. I loved how she told the story of her grandmothers neighborhood. I can relate to the depiction of people who made wrong choices but were great people. I thought it was brave how honest she was in this book Read more
Review:Great read! I've lived and worked in the southwest many years. Many of the people I work with are Native American ("First People") so this book gave me a deeper understanding of their way of life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that plans to visit a Reservation. Read more
Review:Bernstein writes about his childhood in the years before and during the First World War. On one level it's a love story about a forbidden relationship between his Jewish sister and the Christian boy she later marries. But it also covers poverty, Jewish/Christian relations, and the young men who went to fight in the war and the loved ones left behind. A really good read. Hard to believe he wrote this in his late nineties! Read more

Review:Dr. Kengor writes well with good grammar and syntax. His research appears thorough and his footnotes are copious. I would have rated his work higher but for the fact he notes his earlier works rather than original sources. Read more
Review:Reaching goals and obtaining them when you get there can be very hard. It is one thing to say you're going to accomplish your dreams, but to do it is another thing also. Gregory had used hard times in his life growing up, as willpower in acheiving his goal as a lawyer. I felt that it goes to show that you don't have to let hard times stop you from reaching your dreams. From reading and getting a better understanding of the book I've learned the value of hard work and dedication. Gregory ... Read more
