A Call to Arms (Manticore Ascendant series Book 2)
A Call to Arms (Manticore Ascendant series Book 2)

Review:How to rate A Call To Arms? This is the second of the Manticore Rising series, which takes place several centuries before the Honor series. This Manticore is a poor, out of the way system recovering from a plague. The Royal Navy is a neglected, understrength political football. A large mercenary fleet invades the system for no apparent reason and is beaten off at great cost. The reason known to the reader is a transtellar corporation has discovered Manticore has the junction of one or more w... Read more

In Enemy Hands (Honor Harrington Book 7)
In Enemy Hands (Honor Harrington Book 7)

Review:The planet Grayson is inhospitable to humans. The air, soil, water, flora and fauna are poisonous. People have survived for a thousand years by severely limiting their population and growing sustenance in enviro-domes. Along comes Honor and she introduces a colony of carnivorous shoulder cats. The cats don’t do animal husbandry but they expect to eat meat. How smart is that? But the Grasonites are thrilled because it is Honor Harrington doing it and they LOVE her! That silliness transpires in Ch... Read more

Starship Eternal (War Eternal Book 1)
Starship Eternal (War Eternal Book 1)

Review:I read a LOT of military sci-fi, and this is one of the very best I've come across in quite a while. The author combines a fairly unique plot, brings together surprising protagonists from multiple time-lines, adds a surprising "alien" twist, and fills the story with believable, 3-dimensional characters that I came to care about fairly quickly. I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming additions to the however-many-ogy this ends up being. Read more

Honor Among Enemies (Honor Harrington Book 6)
Honor Among Enemies (Honor Harrington Book 6)

Review:If you like CS Forester's Horatio Hornblower, or Patrick O'Brien's "Master and Commander" series, you'll love David Weber's Honor Harrington series. He vividly portrays a strong and viscerally attractive female in the role of the protagonist and really makes the transition to a space opera in grand style. I love the series, and have read it four times, now. I especially like "Honor Among Enemies" and I truly believe the three part mini-series this book begins is his best work. Read more

At All Costs: Honor Harrington, Book 11
At All Costs: Honor Harrington, Book 11

Review:I have read the entire Honor Harrington series and was swept away by the first six or seven. However, they have tended to become longer and longer and to be filled with distracting subplots and scenes that contribute nothing to the development of the story. Furthermore, they seem to become less and less creative as the series goes on, and the main character becomes less and less sympathetic. This novel brings all these unfortunate tendencies to their greatest extreme.

Here is an exampl... Read more

The Shadow of Saganami (Honor Harrington - Saganami Island Book 1)
The Shadow of Saganami (Honor Harrington - Saganami Island Book 1)

Review:While war rages between the Star Kingdom of Manticore and the Republic of Haven in another sector, the Talbott Cluster has voted to join the former. As a show of diplomatic unity, flag-raising, and military strength, the heavy cruiser HMS Hexapuma journeys to this remote sector. Though Captain Terekov is a weary war hero, much of the crew remains untested as recent graduates from the Saganami Island Royal Naval Academy.

However, the simple show of strength turns dangerous as an alliance... Read more

Shadow of Freedom (Honor Harrington)

Review:David Weber is one of the finest authors that I have had the pleasure of reading. The series featuring Honor area wonderful read. The cast of characters are fascinating and complete people you would like to meet. The villains are dastardly. The story line is captivating. Read more

A Novel in the Safehold Series - At the Sign of Triumph
A Novel in the Safehold Series - At the Sign of Triumph

Review:This book is a fitting end to the first nine books in the series. It resolves most of the major plot points, while providing a clear link in to the "next generation" series that I hope Mr. Weber gets to. It is very nice to see the villains of the series--Grand Inquisitor Jasper Clinton and his adjutant, Archbishop William Reynold, meet their ends, while the honorable "bad guys" like Admiral Gardener of Dohlar manage to escape their evil overseers. I am a big fan of Weber and want to see more ... Read more

Mission of Honor (Honor Harrington)
Mission of Honor (Honor Harrington)

Review:I loved the boldness of her arrival in Haven and the forthright way she dealt with the bureacrates. Her ability to read the opponents aids her in the negotiations. For once it was good to read one of Webers novels and not having thousands of people being killed. Others will enjoy this new aspect of Honor's chosen field. Read more

Storm from the Shadows (Honor Harrington - Saganami Island Book 2)
Storm from the Shadows (Honor Harrington - Saganami Island Book 2)

Review:This book is filled with words, and Weber does a good job of tying everything together - which I suspect is difficult. There is a large cast of characters, some new with bits of them fleshed out, and some old ones you may have come across before making an appearance (Honor Harrington, for example). I had a difficult time reading the first in this series - but did so as I have enjoyed overall whatever Weber writes.

I read this on a Kindle - which has the benefit of tracking the percentag... Read more
