Review:The first two thirds (almost) of the book covers practical physics. It is very entertaining and interesting because it deals with thing and events that we all can relate to - Like Newton's laws of motion, electronics and the why and how everyday events happen the way they do. It was an interesting diversion from my usual read. I would have given this part of the book four stars.
The remainder of the book (over two thirds) deals with Astro Physics which it seems is really Walter Lewin's ... Read more
Review:I respect Maya Angelou and she is a good writer (I read her biography) but I could not get through this book due to the reoccurring theme of her hatred for white people. She bluntly blames the white race for all evil in the world and every bad thing she believes happened to her even though she had a beautiful, successful life. Though I cannot imagine what it was like for her growing up in a time of horrible and unacceptable racism. She lived a difficult, heroic, amazing, triumphant life. She l... Read more
Review:Maya Angelou is a literary Amazon. She is insightful, wise and fundamentally generous in her perspective. She pulls no punches about what it was like growing up Black, for herself and her brother, Bailey. These are books that every white American should read, to help understand what it means to be Black in the United States. Read more

Review:After reading both of Dave Pelzer's books, I wanted to read his brother's. I wanted to see the other side of Dave's abuse. I was, instead, faced with yet another story of abuse by the same mother. While Richard didn't seem to face nearly the torture Dave faced, he claims to have taken his brother's place when the state finally placed his brother in foster care. Read more
Review:The first time I read this book, I cried several times. This is a powerful, true story about one of the worst cases of child abuse. Many of the child-abuse laws in place today came about from Dave Pelzer's case. Just as remarkable as the horrendous abuse is the author's life as an adult. I was inspired by Dave's ability to forgive his parents and live a normal, healthy life. I have seen him on "Oprah" and he is confident, funny, and well-adjusted. It is amazing that someone could live through su... Read more
Review:To me this well written book was so enjoyable from beginning to the end; it is the way it was and I almost found myself envying this family. It took me back to basics and a time I remembered so well and identified with their way of life. Read more
Review:I had a old cowboy for a neighbor in Wyoming who had a lot of amazing stories to tell. I'd go over there and chew the fat over breakfast and coffee. Anyway one day he told me that he was looking for a series of books that he knew about, but no matter what bookstore he went in he could never find any. He said he used to know the author, back in Colorado.
I said why don't you search the Internet. He had just gotten a laptop, his first, but he had no clue. He wasn't even familiar with keyboa... Read more
Review:This made a perfect little book for my mom to read during her "quiet times" during the holiday. She loved it and promises to pass it along to her daughters. Good read for the holidays. Short and sweet stories. Read more
Review:This is an amazing true story that although difficult to continue at times is so worth it in the end. Some people have so much inner strength that somehow they emerge victorius in life even though they have been to the depths of existence. Read more
