Review:I love everything that Jill Shalvis writes, but this was not my favorite. I wanted more "encounters" between Stone and Emma and less angst. Emma is so uptight that I wanted to shake her several times to see the big sexy man in front of her. I always recommend reading her books in order to better know the characters in the series which I didn't do with this one. I think her Lucky Harbor series is better than this one. Read more
Review:Sinclair Lewis defines Martin Arrowsmith as `a young man who was in no degree a hero, who regarded himself as a seeker of truth, yet who stumbled and slid back all his life and bogged in every obvious morass.' He is `a snuffing beagle', who in his lifespan covered in this book never was in control of his destiny.
This book touches all kind of important themes:
- Commercialism and the religion of a scientist: `Knowledge is the greatest thing in the medical world, but it's no good wh... Read more
Review:The book is a literary classic, the first ever dystopian novel, but I have to say I have enjoyed others in the genre more. The overall story is interesting and the themes of the book are great but the ending and general flow leave something to be desired....atleast for this reader Read more
Review:After seeing a program on PBS about Salinger, I decided to revisit some of work. I had never read For Esme etc and now wish I was in a book club or literature class to really dig into the stories in this book. Salinger's writing is the kind of work that stays with you and you continue to think about it and want to re-read it. I don't think of Salinger as an "exceptional" author, like Hemingway or Faulkner, but it is certainly very deep. Read more
Review:Unfortunately, I did not appreciate this book. I would have rated it a zero if I could have. It did nothing for me. I read "catcher in the Rye" years ago and enjoyed it. Same author but different rating Read more
Review:This book of short stories is very different from J.D. Salinger's previous works, it touches on human emotion and passion. While the stories are beautiful written and well thought it is the last story "Teddy" that catches the greatest human sentiment and feeling of all. Read more
Review:A great trip down childhood nostalgic reading. Sadly, as an adult, the characters fall flat and are very juvenile and poorly built out. The dynamics don't hold up.
However, it's a fun world and easy to get lost in the war and dragons. Read more
Review:From an adventure story this is an excellent read. However, Swift contrasts the lands that Gulliver travels to his own native England to make a political statement. I found the political dialogues to be a little bit of a turn off. I would still recommend this as long as you don't let the political stuff get in the way of your enjoyment. Read more
Review:Shipped fast and was in great condition for a used book! Books by this author are hard to find in great condition, but was well worth it to find this one and be able to give it as a gift to a loyal reader. Read more
Review:You want each short story to continue, not because anything is left out, but because there is a story in each avenue of the characters Lous l'Amour could take, but doesn't. Each story very different from the other. GREAT book. Read more
